Magic Band+

For those of you who have purchased the Magic Band+, what do you think of it? Is it worth the price?

I do not want one personally but am thinking about ordering one for my grandson who will be traveling with us on our trip in the fall. He is an adult, by the way, and loves all things technical. Thought it might be a nice surprise for him. My daughter and I will have the regular magic bands.

Thoughts?

I am also interested in hearing thoughts from people who have used them.

We all just bought them for our upcoming trip, but to be perfectly honest, I’m not even sure what exactly they do. Any insight as to when they light up or make sounds, etc.?

It is fun to take advantage of the interactive elements in star wars land, but other than that its basically jewelry and another opportunity for an up-charge. If the visual appeal of the band is worth the cost to you, or you want to do the interactive star wars stuff go for it, otherwise don't bother.

During the 50th they would light up around the statues that were scattered about. They will light up during some of the nighttime shows. I have never used it for this, but supposedly Star Warsland has some game for them. A few attractions give some light and vibration patterns, also.

I think they’re worth it. When I went a few weeks ago, I had one, and everyone in my party was very jealous. They kept pointing out when it would light up during a ride or the fireworks. Plus, with the MB+, it has a rechargeable battery so he can use it every time he’s down in Disney. I’m debating purchasing a second MagicBand+, so I can have some variety.

That being said, since it’s tech, it will need to be charged and updated before heading out to the parks. So if you are intending it as a surprise, I would give it to him a few days before the trip so he can charge it and update it!

The rechargeable battery is exactly why I am NOT interested in them. I don't need something else to charge and update. The old bands work for years without having to do anything to them. I'm okay with missing out on "Glow with the show" and the few other unique features.

You don't have to charge it. You CAN charge it. It'll work just like a normal MagicBand even if you never ever plug it in.

Install the Play Disney Parks app before your trip. The band tracks what attractions you ride and it unlocks "achievements." It's nothing terribly exciting but it unlocks things like AR lenses that are fun for killing time in line or at the airport. Mostly the band just buzzes and blinks, which I think is fun but it's obviously not a game-changer.

I tell people that I definitely recommend some kind of MagicBand just because I like the form factor. I like a waterproof bracelet that works as a room key, room charge, park ticket, and lightning lane access. I think it's especially useful for on-site guests when they go to the resort pool. If someone doesn't have any MagicBand at all, I think it's worth buying the Plus so it's a little bit future-proof and I also like the designs better. If someone already has a drawer full of MagicBand 2s and doesn't feel compelled to upgrade, that's fine too.

As someone that used it for a week straight at the end of February, I can speak from experience. I like the convenience of tickets, credit card, and room key all being accessible through it. It was a fun novelty with the 50th statues, and we played games guessing what might play before activating them. The light effects were neat for attractions and fireworks, and as a Tron fan who was invited for cast member previews, I thought it worked fantastic for that particular attraction. After open to close 6 days in the parks, I was never under 50% charge, but did recharge it nightly. Admittedly, I did not play the bounty hunter game in Hollywood Studios though.

Is it something that you need? Absolutely not. Is it a fun little novelty, especially if you can get the pre-arrival discount at your resort? Absolutely!
