What I find most interesting is Staggs saying the project had been done within budget, even going as far as saying they saved money because the use of smartphones.

That is interesting considering they don't know how to quantify the cost or know what impact it has had on guest spending etc. In one breath they say they don't know....but then say it has saved money because of the use of smart phones. Is this just spin? How do they know it saved money?

Well that statement whether true or not about smartphone use was saying they didn't feel the need to buy as many in park kiosks due to the amount of people using the app ....that would be easy to know and let's not kid ourselves....they know a lot more than they let on....which I think it a good thing for future decisions they make

I see your point, but the statement is a little disingenuous to begin with. " we didn't have to spend 1.2 billion instead of 1 billion" which is saving us 200 million. I use the numbers as just an illustration because we don't know the numbers. Its pure spin, and of course they know the expenditures and actual numbers realized and not telling us.

We all know that the entire 1 billion isn't just for the bands alone but because we don't know the numbers some of us often throw that number around as if it is. Its not, just a portion of it. But wall street and fans alike still associate the number with the program. No matter how the investment is broken down.... investors want to see a return. Staggs is grasping at any situation he can turn positive. I don't blame him for that, its his job.

As far as future decisions Disney will make on WDW? I guess only time will tell. I am glad you are as positive about the future. But there is an old sayin', A true indicator of future behavior....is past behavior. If we went back ten years and said the same thing I think we would be disappointed.

yeah but at their levels, they can put spin or use statistics anyway they want to make things sound good... our government does the exact same thing....ex. income is down, more people out of work, record number of people on food stamps, "but things are improving"

we all know this has cost a lot of money and more then they had hoped.... but it's a foundational project for the future and they are just scratching the surface. It's like being in the middle of paving the MK parking lot for the first time and realize it is costing more money than they though due to some unforeseen circumstances...the show must go on

if the Disney corp was losing money and their stock was dropping like a rock and things weren't looking good on the corporate level, it would be bad... but they are rocking as a company right now and right or wrong MM+ won't get a lot of scrutiny (except for us diehard fans) from the shareholders because of that

we can all say MM+ has cost the Orlando park more attractions... but that's just speculative because they have plenty of money... they are just being more selective on how they spend it...also I didn't see them building a lot of new things over the last couple of years either before the MM+ expensices...so I think it's just all timing and we're going to have to just be patient to wait on some of the newer things (Disney Springs, Pandora, Star Wars, etc.) . It's a tough wait I know... I want more as much as the next person but I can also enjoy what they provide now (stale in some eyes or not)

It probably has, and then they can roll it out at the other parks for very minimal cost.
It's a shame they couldn't have gotten Hong Kong to foot 50% of the bill by developing it for them and then extending it to WDW.

I can see how it makes more sense at WDW though...the money used for this SHOULDN'T have been from just the WDW bucket though, does anyone know?

That's the most even handed response I have ever saw from you daddio'....very nice. The only thing I will add is that the cost of kiosk and how many should have been built in the initial budget. You don't dropthis kind of coin in a project like this without knowing certain details.....like a educated guess on how many people will use a kiosk versus how many will use a smart phone. What is the unforeseen circumstances? You mean like the wifi being unusable by some?

unforeseen circumstances.... like bad project management and client education/rollout/adoption in my opinion. I'm not saying the project is bad, there are a lot of positives and probably more to come.... but they could have definitely done a better job in delivery....part of this is likely do to the new agile project management that happens in businesses a lot today... just focus on the little increments (which sometimes in my opinion muddies the water on the overall big picture)

I'm sure those lil kiosks don't cost enough to even justify mentioning saving money there on a billion dollar project... but it is possible they may not have been aware of how many would be using their mobile devices or even the website online prior to stepping foot on WDW property

thanks for the comments... ya see... I call it like I see it (the good and the bad) lol
