Maelstrom originally called SeaVenture

I hadn't heard this before, but an article posted on the Disney Parks Blog confirmed this. Does anyone else know the timeframe for the name change and what may have caused it? I assume it opened as Maelstrom so the original sign was replaced before opening.

I love hearing new things about WDW that I didn't know before and this is one of them. Very interesting (and somehow I missed it when reading the blog - go figure). I actually kind of like "SeaVenture" but I think that the existence of the Living Seas and having the SeaCabs at the time may have thrown that into the "confusion for guests" bucket.

^^ Agreed, SeaVenture sounds way too "Futue World" for that pavilion. I'm glad they changed it, also gives people some knowledge about a norwegian word they might not have been familiar with.
