Maelstrom Age Restriction

I read in the Unofficial Guide to WDW that Maelstrom doesn't have a height restriction, but has an age restriction (must be 3 years or older to ride).

I was wondering if POTC and IASW are allowed, why is Maelstrom restricted? Is it because of the backward drop? We're going with our 9 month old in December and I was a bit disappointed that we won't be able to ride this together.

Hi! I went to Disney last October with our (then) 8 month old and we took him on Maelstrom. We had no problems and are going again in 2 weeks. He'll be 20 months old and we hope to take him on it again. We took him at 8 months old on all the rides we could and he loved them. We had no problems with any of the rides that went dark or anything. He was an absolute joy at that age and I know he's going to be older now but I still can't wait! I hope you have fun and I would plan on taking your baby on that ride. We took ours and he loved it!

We were there last December and our daughter was only 5 months old and no one ever said a thing about taking her on. I think you will be fine.

I have never seen any age restriction placed on anyone riding Maelstrom -- that might be there as a general caution for scary content, but I have not seen anybody not permitted on the ride in my many many visits there.

On more crowded days, though -- there can be a long, very boring wait to get ON Maelstrom -- parents with young ones beware, there is nothing to see in this line.
