I guess I missed someting...all I saw was the float going down the road and leann and characters waving.

CBS was just showing the floats passing by..but NBC showed the actual parade stops and performances. I was switching between the two during commercials lol.

Flame me if you want, but I wasn't that impressed.
Yes, I can explain why, just give me a second.

Ok, here is some backround: In Philadelphia we have the 6ABC/Boscov's Thanksgiving Day Parade. As you all (should) know, Disney is ABC's parent company, and for as long as I can remember Disney has been a large part of our parade. Click for a promotional Picture from last year's parade. They usually send one of the local reporters down to WDW and show a few special clips.* What really makes this special is that we see tham not just for a few minutes on a parade float, we get a full-blown show in front of the art museum. Yes, you had Rimes sing, but we had Mickey, Pluto, Minnie, Stitch, Chip, Dale, the princesses, and some others that I'm forgetting. I'm not trying to bash the Macy's float, but I just have to say I wasn't that impressed. If you have the chance to see our parade next years, I suggest you check it out.

*Just to let you know, the clips this year were nothing ground-breaking, except for a special EE clip. I cannot say it was anything we've never seen before, but it did have some commentary by an imagineer (not sure who, but it wasn't Rhode) and some great footage of the ride during testing from angles which a guest could not get. The one thing that did really catch my attention was a quick shot of the train going up the lift hill from the perspective of the rider and a shot of the switch track, taken from above.

Ah, finally a Philly parade fan! Actually this year our parade (I say our as I work on it) reached most of the east coast. A large amount of the Northeast and the Southeast gets our broadcast. This year Disney added the Animal Kingdom float and changed the main Disney dance number (even better then last year in my mind). Our parade is also more Disney if you will because most of our crew works for Walt Disney World Entertainment or some aspect of the Walt Disney Company. The feeling in the air at the parade itself is also a lot nicer. We are more of a stage show rather then a parade. Unlike Macy's our performances are mostly celebs and dancers. Macy's takes the marching band approach.

The other nice part is Philly news anchor Karen Rogers broadcasts live from the Walt Disney World resort and checks in on the Philly folks on vacation down there and does a few segments on the parks. Its really nice.

On a sad note, Disney will be taking a more national level approach to their marketing next year so we are not sure what that will mean for our regional show (I'm persoanlly hoping it means the show will expand into even more markets).

Clips from our parade should be online at www.wpvi.com

Finally saw a video of it... and I gotta say, I don't care for that rendition of "Remember When." IMHO, they really took the charm out of the original song. :(

However... Aladdin was there... ;)
