M:S idea

Something that has always bothered me about M:S is that they have all of these "jobs" designated to people, but sometimes, people don't do them and there is no difference (yes, I am aware that they are not really flying...)
I just think it would be a very disneyish thing to do to have it actually be interactive, almost like a decision tree. What they could do it have different effects on the screen depending on whether or not the person pressed the button or not.

Maybe it's just me, but I really think that a feature like that would take it to the next level.

I agree. The 2nd time I ever rode M:S I decided not to do my "job" out of pure curiosity, just to see what happened. To my disappointment, our space shuttle did not spiral out of control or crash and explode into a million pieces. Some new interactive alternatives would definitely be refreshing.

That is exactly what I've been thinking since they opened. The problem with that is that (to my knowlege) they designed the ride to have all of the capsoles to move together, not individually. Adding equipment to the ride to make it possible for them to do their own individual movements is very hard to retrofit into the core of the ride. UNLESS they thought of this before and added them in for the CHANCE they may further this attraction.

The other option is to have the same movements but different visuals, which is very hard to do.

The first time I rode on this last year, I wondered the same thing...I always used to love those "chose your own adventure" books and wondered what M:S could be with a little bit of choice in the mix. Even if there was a little recognition on the part of the visuals that did something like "WHY AREN'T YOU PUSHING THE BUTTON?!" sirens or something, it would make the experience feel even more authentic.

The first time I rode it, I was so excited that I got the Engineer position. I know, I'm a nerd. I was pretty much expecting that it wouldn't matter whether or not I pushed the buttons, however, I couldn't help it. I was so excited to push the buttons.....until everyone and I realized that that was probably not a very good idea considering we all looked away from the screens to do so (a big no-no for those who wish to enjoy the remainder of their day and/or all of the meals consumed beforehand). I was wondering why it was designed with the buttons below the screen. I just think it may have prevented a lot of the complaints/problems that M:S has had if they had not included it or found locations for the buttons that were more flush to the screen.

or just on the screen themselves...
I think they should have an "AI' pilot who kicks in when someone doesn't press the button...although they could make each ending more severe the more buttons you dont press...that would be interesting!!! hehehee >: )

It would, but it`d also mean the all singing parallax view hi res visuals would need multiple renders / storylines, and as mentioned above also have to run in perfect sync with all the other capsules in that particular `fuge (I Know... Horizons could do it...)

Since M:S was a tad over budget what we see is what we got.
