Lunch: Tusker House VS Flame Tree BBQ

During our next WDW Vacation in December, we are planning to eat a late 9:00pm dinner at Ohana's :)

But.. during the Day we will be in Animal Kingdom.. so we are looking at lunch options.

Rain Forrest is cool looking but we don't like the food (and there are two Rain Forrest Cafe's near us.) So our other two options are Tusker House and Flame Tree BBQ. We went to Tusker House on our last vacation and it was kinda interesting because it looked like something out of a african town.. but it really didn't impress us much with the food. But it did fit into the whole old african town theme nicely. We never went to Flame Tree BBQ but we heard the food was great? But the looks are nothing special tho?

Anyway.. what are your thoughts on Tusker House VS Flame Tree BBQ for lunch? We are taking our two moms on their first ever WDW trip and want every lunch/dinner to be good.

Do you think that the BBQ of Flame Tree will be too similar to the food served at Ohana's?

Flame Tree is delicious. It is the best BBQ I have ever had!! Their menu includes stuff like, ribs, chicken sandwhiches, pulled pork. The "dining area" isn't great because it is outside, but the very last eating area is by the water and you can see EE.

I think Tusker House is a great value. We really like being able to order food that doesn't come with french fries. I also like the food at Flame Tree though; we usually eat at both of them when we go.

That being said, I like Flame Tree's eating area better. It is outside so it isn't as crowded as Tusker House. Also, it's pretty and if you are with small kids they can run around a bit without knocking someone over or disturbing their lunch.

The Tusker House has improved their food since opening in 1998, but this one is a no brainer for me. FLAME TREE BBQ ALL THE WAY!!!!!

The BBQ pork sandwich (And the grilled chicken sandwich for that matter) with baked beans and corn on the cob are top notch.

Won't you be done with the park by lunch time? Just kidding, kindof.

None of the Animal Kingdom restaurants knock my socks off, so I'd just be careful you don't get ahold of something that ruins that FINE 'Ohana dinner you have lined up. ;)

edit: I just noticed that question you slipped in there at the end of your post. NO - the Flame Tree BBQ is not at all like the Polynesian style pit roasted food you get at 'Ohana.

See which menu you like the look of. But I prefer the outdoor seating area of Flame Tree.

Don't forget the Meal coupon. For about $13 you get three vouchers, one for the entree and drink, then two others you can use later. One for an ice cream or popcorn and one for a bottled drink, that you can redeem at any of the Animal Kingdom carts.

I was able to eat at Tusker House last time I went to AK, and I thought the rotiseree chicken w/ green beans was AWESOME! Never been able to eat at Flame Tree though, I'll have to try that sometime this year.
