Lucky For Some

Not really a superstition ... more of a tradition. The first trip to Walt Disney World was for Thanksgiving in 1971. Both parents, my brother, my grandmother and me. For weeks after we got home, all Mom Mom talked about was It's a Small World. The next trip back was in 1973, then again in 1975, then in 1977 (noticing a pattern? :)). Every trip, the only thing Mom Mom *had* to ride was Small World. When we went back in 1979, she had begun to slip mentally. I don't know if Altzheimers was an official diagnosis yet or not ... we just called her senile! When we got on Small World, I was sitting next to her and she had this really goofy grin on her face. As we rounded the first corner, she started clapping along with the music. Then she started singing along. Loudly. By the end of the ride, the boat full of college students behind us were singing (loudly) and the families in the boat in front of us were singing. Sadly, she passed away within a few months of returning home from that trip.

This December will be my 24th visit to Mickey's World and I have ridden It's a Small World *every* visit. In fact, I added a day to my trip to be there before they close it for renovations in December. Every time through, I think of her and the sheer joy on her face back in 1979. Somehow, I feel a little closer to her during the ride. I'm sure folks wonder why I'm all teary when I get off at the end! 78 days and counting ...

I will not travel on Friday the 13th or September 11th. We have been coming to WDW the 2 Thursday of September for sometime now and planning our trip for next September realized the 11th falls on Thursday that we would be leaving and I just can not do it. I think if 911 didn't involve planes I could, but nope can't do it, so next year we will be leaving on the 4th instead.

A tradition of mine is to say "good morning" to Roy on the way into the MK and to say "see ya later" on the way out with a touch to my non-existant hat. If it was not for him the place would not have been built. Good reason to give the man top billing. It was nice of the place to put him on a bench that is convienent to the entrance/exit.

It always seems like any trip I've gone on that we did not go to the Magic Kingdom first was a bit awful, so we always go there first now. But the "awful" probably had more to do with being school trips than WDW and they were all during spring break and the parks were packed.

No superstitions here, but we do have traditions: first ride is always WDW Railroad, a Mickey Bar must be eaten before all other treats, just silly stuff we do for fun and because it brings back memories of past trips.
Our tradition is to always visit MK the first morning and ride the WDW railroad all around the pak before we do anything else  - after we've looked up Main Street and think WOW!!! we're actually here again.:):joyfull:

Awesome tradition! We love the railroad and there's something special about seeing the whole park through that train ride :joyfull: I cry for most of the ride, it's so good to be back!

We also ride the Railroad before we do anything else! DH & I started doing it on our first trip & have continued the tradition whether we are by ourselves or with friends/family.

not really superstitious, but a week out I always make everyone in the family take extra vitamin C and I am more obnoxious about keeping a clean (sterile) house than normal- I'm always worried someone is going to get sick-I don't mind being sick at home, but NOT on vacation!

I'm not too superstitious about things on a Disney trip. I mean, I do certain rides first but that's because I estimate I'll only be able to get one ride per attraction anyway considering the crowds and all. Re-riding is not a major problem I need to address. Getting at least one ride on my favorites does!

I'm not superstitious about Friday the 13th, but maybe Pittsburghers are: the Pirates have now lost 11 games in a row on Friday the 13th.

I don't do anything superstition wise.

I don't really believe in them for the most part...not really...uhm...

FOR THE RECORD however - for Italians "13" is considered a lucky number.

Today is Friday the 13th --

  • It's my wife's 50th Birthday (We're going to surprise her with a little party at our favorite local restaurant)
  • We are EXACTLY 13 days away from our WDW vacation.

Hmm...pretty lucky I'd say...IF you believe in that sorta thing...................
Belated Happy 50th to your good lady..
