As great as Serkis is Tommy Lee Jones is going to get Best Supporting Actor for Lincoln. His Thaddeus Stevenson was an AMAZING performance. I wanted to give a standing ovation in the middle of the movie. I am getting goosebumps just thinking about it and I saw the movie 3 weeks ago.

I agree that Jones is the likely winner. Lincoln is an "Academy" kind of movie. Not to say I didn't like it, cause I did. Daniel Day Lewis has a good shot at winning Best Actor I think.

Serkis will never be recognized by the Academy, because his work is so non-conventional.

I saw it in IMAX and enjoyed it.

If the people responsible for the Academy Awards had any guts, Andy Serkis would win an award for his portrayal of Gollum. Not necessarily for this movie in particular, but for the character overall.

I bet they will, but prolly not until the last movie comes out. Kinda like how the third LOTR movie won best picture. He'll be recognized for his overall performance.

I am going tonight to see the NON-HFR version. A reviewer I heard on the radio referred to the HFR as "Explodo-cracklevision". He said that it was distracting beyond belief.

I saw it earlier today and I would agree that it can be distracting especially during crowd shots becuase it feels so choppy. The scene at the beginning with old Bilbo feels waay too fast. The friend I saw it with complained of irritation during the multiple flyover sequences.

However, there are a couple important scenes where it worked really well but these scenes were slower in tempo or had only a couple characters.

The best analogy that I can use to describe this is what the folks at /film said it looks like a BBC soap opera from the 90's.

What I find interesting is that James Cameron is using 60fps for the next two Avatar films and UNI is also, according to @whylightbulb, using it for the Harry Potter expansion. Btw @whylightbulb, could you elaborate a bit more about your reports of how the 60fps tests at UNI looked since they thought it looked better than 48fps.

Did anyone here see it in 48 FPS(HFR)?
I have seen in in both 48 fps 3D and 24 fps 2D. I like the 48 fps 3D much better than the 24 fps 2D. The 48 fps just looked so much more crisp and real. With the 24 fps version I almost felt like I was seeing the movie through a scrim. The one thing that I did notice was the CG effects don't look quite as good at 48 fps simply because much more imperfection can be hid at 24 fps. I have a feeling that once the CG guys are able to adjust to the new higher frame rate, that problem will go away much like it did when we went from SD to HD.

haven't seen the Hobbit but my initial reaction still is:

how are they making the shortest book from series (counting LOTR) into 3 movies all almost 3 hours long

Saw it with my son yesterday. I liked the movie. I was pleasantly surprised. I found the faster frame rate to off putting since on numerous occasions, props looked like props. It was too sharp. Perhaps, Master Yoda is correct and this problem will be solved. However, I have to admit that I really only like HD for sports, so I may be an outlier....
