Losing points on a waitlist up to 7 days before?

Hi everyone,

My husband and I had to move our trip from February to March (I got a new job :sohappy. We were booked at BLT for 10 days using points but unfortunately we were not able to get BLT when we rebooked for March. We are currently booked for SSR (which we love, but really want to stay at BLT) but asked to be waitlisted for BLT. The agent gave us the option of being on the waitlist either 31 or 7 days away from our arrival. My husband chose 7 and here is where we are not sure if we understood correctly-from what we understood if we remained on the list up till 7 days away from our arrival and got our waitlist at BLT, we would lose the points that we used to book SSR because of the less than 31 day cancellation policy.

Did we understand that correctly? Does anyone have any insight on this?

As long as you are transferring one reservation for another you won't lose any points. If you were to cancel between 30 and 1 day your points would go into holding status, which means they can only be used on a reservation that is 60 days or less out and within you current use year. If your new reservation uses less points than you original and you are less than 30 but more than 1 day out the extra points would go into holding. The only way you can really lose your points would be to cancel on your arrival day.
