We are considering buying into DVC through a resale. We have most of the info to make a decision excpet for one. What type of discounts do memebrs get at WDW. Specifically we are looking into dining. We know we get a discount on an annual pass and that may be an option for us. But we have asked Disney about dining and have gotten very vague responses. Do you get a discount on the dining plans and if so, how much? Or is it just a discount on individual meals and how much? Any info anyone can provide would be helpful as we drive toward our final decision.

Not sure if I did the PM thing correctly. Please let me know if you got it. If not let me know how to PM and I will try again.

In case it has not worked as of yet the dining discount is acquire through the purchase of a Tables In Wonderland card. The cost is $100 for DVC members and you break even after ~$450 is spent of food/beverage/alcohol. $450 is an off the hip number knowing that AP price is $75 and break even is highish $300s

There are multiple ways to get dining discounts. Some restaurants offer discounts solely for being a DVC member. For instance, most of the food choices at DLR offer a 10% discount to DVC members. WDW discounts are all over the place. A few park restaurants offer the 10%, as well as many resort restaurants, but not all, and no TS locations. As a DVC member you can also buy the TiW card to save 20% at most WDW table service locations. If you have an AP, you can get it for cheaper.

However, keep in mind that these discounts are subject to change or removal at any time. I wouldn't base a purchase on if you will be able to save 10% at Rainforest Cafe or not......

Most of the DVC discounts that are available are for lunch, not dinner. Except of course the ability to purchase the TIW card. Which is not really a DVC discount per se, but the ability to buy into what is a discount normally available only to AP holders and FL residents.

DVC members get discounts at a handful of restaurants. The list is subject to change...and it does change. Even if your favorite restaurant is on the list today, it may be gone weeks or months from now.

Fact is none of the discounts are contractually guaranteed and they are ALL subject to change. We currently have discounts on Annual Passes, golf, tours, watersports, dining, shopping and others. But each perk has its own terms and conditions and can be discontinued at any time.

The Annual Pass discount is a great perk for members and I'm sure it's helped sell many points. But fact is the AP discount just came into being in 2005--14 years after DVC's inception. Will we still get that discount in 2 years? 10 years? 20 years?

Your guess is as good as mine.

The only thing really certain not to change is the ability to use points for booking Disney villas. (And even there the specifics can be altered over time.)

But DVC because it's a cost effective form of lodging...not because of the perks which could evaporate at any time.
