... now how in the world do i use it!! lol
santa was VERY generous this year and he brought be a 3rd generation, 30 gig, ipod.
I currently use it on my parents computer becasue mine is from the 17th century and wont support the ipod.
Im using Windows XP and I've tried Music Match which i hated, EphPod, which im not in love with but currently using, i use Free Rip with EphPod and i like that program for ripping CD's but heres my question... i know lots of you are super tech-y people so please help me out!! im ready to be doing this...:brick:

Should i be using Itunes? the thought really never crossed my mind because i didnt know that you could use Itunes to Rip Cd's and all that. Im not super interested in buying the music from the itunes store...just using the program to manage my music and maybe occasionally buy a cd or 2. maybe an audio book or 2 also.

Thanks for your help in advanced!! i know somebody out theres gotta be able to know what im talking about...then be able to explain it to me :D

oh and PS
sorry im a bit of an absent member lately... i'll do a better job of keeping in touch since things are finally settling down

Whether you want to use the iTunes store or not iTunes is definitely the way to go. It works seemlessly with the iPod and makes everything very easy. It's night and day from MusicMatch.

Plus the iTunes store is a great way to get that one song from an album that you don't want to buy.

The best solution is to just get a Mac. The free solution is to download iTunes for Windows. The iPod and iTunes go hand in hand. :D

I agree with a previous sentiment - Get a Mac (I've been using Apple Computers since 1983: there are four Macs in my house!). Seriously though, you need to use iTunes even if you aren't going to buy music. The iPod and iTunes go together seamlessly (though it works better on a Mac:D)

Ok, well i am gonna guess you cant aford a shiny new mac.

So.....

use iTunes. Its great and it works well on an PC (mac or pc).

The best way I find to rip cd's to use on an MP3 player is Nero. You can record it all and then nero will split up the tracks for you. A great choice...

Nero and iTunes..

OK, somebody had to play the stupid one, right? So here goes.
IPOD is the compact MP3 thingie, right? So why all the doubts about using this or that? Can't you just download or create regular MP3s and put into it?
And also, are you able to, like, hook it to a stereo so you can play MP3s at a friend's house, for instance?

thanks so much for all the replys!! and the welcome into the world of macs...even though Blizz has it right on the money... i cant afford a mac... i cant even afford a BigMac from mcdonnalds right now (insert cheesy laugh track and a bald guy playing the drums here)
MKcustodial... you CAN play the ipod on your home stereo with the right attachments/parts
its REALLY a cool gadget and it lets you carry your entire music collection in the palm of your hand

Now i have another question related to me making the switch to Itunes... How can i archive my music that i have on my ipod without using up the space on my dads PC...
i have a CD-RW drive and a DVD-RW Drive (ive heard somewhere that you can fit hundreds of CD's worth of MP3's on a DVD-R but im not sure if thats true lol)

Maybe my next computer will be a mac of some sort... ive heard they rock :-D

The iPod hides the music files and you must use a program to transfer music to the iPod to play. It's done like that to prevent copying of songs.

And yes, you can hook it up to a stero system, either through the headphone jack or the iPod dock.

Of course, just follow the instructions to install the drivers and you're off and running. :)

OKay but i still need an answer to my question about archiving my music files...
I heard somewhere that you could put hundreds of CD's worth of MP3's on a DVDR disk and i dont know if thats true or not, because i have to move my music files off of my dads computer :)

You can fit quite a bit of mp3s on a CDRW (that's how I used to back mine up), so I'm guessing that you can fit a whole lot more on a DVDRW.. they hold an insane amount of information. Look at how many megabytes (gigabytes?) the DVDRW will hold, then measure your music collection.

My iPod's name is Gordon, by the way. ;) Bonus points for anyone who knows why.
