Lone Ranger Shuts Down

An article appeared in my local paper saying Disney was looking to cut $50 million from what they consider an already over inflated $250 million budget... Dunno how true that is or whatnot...

Will be interesting to see if they can slash the budget for this movie... I think it had potential, moreso because Johnny Depp was in it...

From what I've read, the story revolved around Tonto, Native Americans and werewolves. The Lone Ranger was diminished to almost being Tonto's sidekick.

If that's the case, good for Disney. I'd love to see a new Lone Ranger origins movie (go into detail on the killing of the other Rangers and how he and Tonto became friends and partners). This treatment sounds absolutely terrible.

I'm glad they killed it and hope it will be revived with a new story that's closer to the source material.

Hi-Yo, Silver, or what?

Disney's big-screen, big-budget version of THE LONE RANGER has been in and out of the stable in the last few months as the project tried to rope in an exorbitant budget. But apparently the principal talent and the studio have finally wrangled the price tag to something acceptable.

Deadline says that everyone "is likely to have everything resolved by next week, and can start rehiring crew so that the picture will be ready to begin production in January or February."

Johnny Depp will wear the headband of faithful sidekick Tonto while Armie Hammer slips on the mask of the titular pulp hero, and director Gore Verbinski (without whom Depp would have walked) will handle the pricey Old West adventure. British actress Ruth Wilson (BBC's "Luther") is expected to play the female lead in the Jerry Bruckheimer production.

It remains to be seen if the film's initial release date of Dec. 21, 2012 (or the bizarre idea to have the duo battling werewolves) is still part of the plan.
