Living Behind The Magic Kingdom!

Ok so heres the deal, My grandparents are looking at a house that is located literally almost right behind the Magic kingdom. I didnt believe them when they told me it was right behind the mk, but when I went to google it pretty much is! its located on Lake Mabel (google the address if you want to help me out with my question) 9011 lake mabel dr. orlando, fl

My question is, when I searched to find the directions from the house to the mk, it told me that I would have to drive through private usage roads, which I'm assuming would be cast member only roads, but then, say I wanted to go to the mk, or the contemporary resort,if I cant use the quickest route, I would have to go all the way around in the opposite direction, it would more than double the time it takes because I would have to drive all the way around to vista dr. My question is, would it be possible to use reams road or Center drive to get to the park or hotels? Or are those roads strictly for cast members with guarded gates and all?

I'm so excited and really hope they end up buying it, I cant imagine how great its going to be to be able to stay at my grandparents home on the lake, and being only 8 min away from the MK!

You'll be able to enter WDW property via Center Drive off of Reams Road. There isn't any kind of gate there, just a small sign that pretty much exists to say that you're entering private property owned by the Walt Disney Company. (You see a similar sign if you enter property via Sherberth Road near Animal Kingdom)

When you get to where Center Dr, World Dr and Floridian Way all come together, you'll pretty much want to turn right to go around past the Grand Floridian. That's how to get to most of the parks. The only thing turning left will get you is the Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge and the back way to Downtown Disney (how the buses go).

Just be aware that around fireworks time this area will pretty much be closed off. You *might* be able to get down to the Contemporary and around onto Seven Seas Dr by the Polynesian, but you definitely won't be able to turn right onto Floridian Way.
And if it's a special event night with perimeter fireworks, be prepared for absolutely NO traffic to get through that area for quite a while around fireworks time...

This route would allow you to circumvent the MK parking plaza.

Interesting!

Or where you planning on parking at one of the hotels.

Make sure you're aware of this. As mentioned, they close off BOTH roads around the MK on those night, and it's closed for a looong time. You'll have to take Vista to 535 to get back.... and don't follow disney's signs for 535 in that area. At one point, 535 is 1/2 mile straight ahead, and they direct you miles in another direction.

One thing you should consider is that while yes you can use those roads, they technically are not open to the public. Disney could sometime in the future (although I don't see it happening) close off access to them and then you would have to drive all the way around. They used to have a security guard booth right at the Reams rd. entrance where you would have to show ID to enter.

Living near Disney

I live near Disney and the traffic has been getting worse as more construction of new subdivisions are built. We just found out that there will be a hugh "high density" subdivision call "Horizon West" being built that backs up next to Disney. It will be hugh so traffic will be worse and Disney might have to close off some of it's back roads in the future. I think your grandparents subdivision is right next door if I'm not mistaken. In the meantime enjoy the "nearness" because that will change in the future if traffic get that bad.

That's the only way to get from north of the property into the Magic Kingdom parking lot. (Once you're past the Floridian, that's even how the road signs direct people) The alternative would be to drive down World Drive, turn onto Vista Blvd past Fort Wilderness, turn right onto Bonnet Creek, right again onto Epcot Center Drive and then right again onto World Drive to approach the toll plaza.

Or, if you are past the Floridian and toll plaza on Floridian Way/World Drive, you can just u-turn on World Drive toward the toll plaza.

I live in Independence which is 2 miles north of Cindy's place. Can't walk the dog certain times at night because he's scared of the fireworks. She's one noisy neighbor.

I have to take 535 to Vista as well. The Christmas Party is over but they are still running the parimeter fireworks right now blocking all access to the entrance of that side of the property. Found that out the hard way last night. :brick:

I used to live in the Preserve, & my house was one mile from the Magic Kingdom cast parking lot, right off of Reams Road. I never had a problem, though I do work at MK. The people I was living with worked at Universal Studios & the only problem they really had was say they were out shopping & the wanted to take the quick way home, which would be through Disney& MK to get back, they would either have to have me in the car to flash my ID, or if I wasn't around they would just say they had dining reservations at Contemporary otherwise they would have to drive all the way around on CR 535 all the way around WDW to get home. So I never had to flash ID to be driving on those roads.

Though I was able to watch the fireworks from my bed, I ended up moving out this past summer.
