Living at the Complexes

Okay so, I'm increasingly hearing conflicting stories about the housing complexes at WDW, what are they really like? Are the wild stories exaggerated or what? Those who've been tell me what it was like for you, those who are just as curious ask your own questions please!

I think the wildest of the stories are highly exaggereted. It seems every one, no matter what year or season they did the CP, swears up and down that they knew a building at Vista that was actually a brothel or witnessed a Brazilian hot tub orgy. It baffles my mind the way these identical situations seemed to occur annually for the past ten years running.
Living in Vista or Chatham is only going to be as wild as you make it. If you want to avoid the partying and such, it's easy to do. If you want to take part in it, it's also easy to find.

I lived in Chatham. It was great, clean, calm, quiet, friendly people, sometimes the boys upstairs were a little loud but that's only because they didn't know how to walk without stomping across the floor! But I absolutely loved it, and had no issues whatsoever. I'm not a partier by any means and so I wanted to stay as far away from Vista as possible. BUT I've heard that Vista isn't as bad as people make it seem, so who knows. Chatham is a safe bet for sure though.

I want to avoid the ones that tilt toward alcohol and termination...but i've been hearing thats hard to do.

I don't think it's as hard as people make it out to be. I take it you're underage? It's just like real life, if you make friends with a crowd that doesn't drink or party, you have nothing to worry about, no tempetation and no negative situations. But if you hang out with people that do drink and go out a lot it's going to be a lot harder to avoid.
I was underage my first CP and never had a problem. My friends and I spent a lot of time in the parks, saw a lot of movies, and of course worked all the time. My second CP I was over 21 and went out and drank and enjoyed the partying aspect a lot more. They were two vastly different experiances even though it was the same place.

From what my recruiter said Patterson is already partialy open (maybe she said just ready) but I do believe it will be open for incoming CPs this season.

As previous posters said, It is what you make of it. I have heard about more parties going on at Vista but I also heard about parties at Chatham. Its a group of college aged kids so there are going to be parties. I lived at Cahtham and loved it. The last week it was a bit louder but other than that it was very quiet.

Hey does anyone know the name of the apartments they move CPs into if they run out of housing? They aren't owned by Disney and are further away...any idea what I'm talking about?? I'm moving to Orlando for the summer and am having the hardest time finding somewhere close to live!!!! Thanks!

They actually aren't moved into apartments, but a hotel. I believe it is called Sabel (Sabal?) Palms.

I believe the Sabel spelling is correct. It actually isn't a hotel. Its an apartment complex that is a good 20 minutes from Disney. While I was on my program they offered free rent to those who moved there and I visited a friend's apartment there. It is in the Metro East(maybe west) area of town. Its not really a great area or complex. I had a friend who she and her husband moved down and she said that the area the Sabel Palms apartments are in are a one side of the street is safe and the other isn't kind.

The complex did have a gate where you have to enter a password or something to get in but you can easily tailgate the person in front of you and get it (that's how I got in). The complex didn't seem as nice as it looked from the pictures I'd seen online. The paint on the railings on the staircase was chipping and other things like that.

I think that inside the apartment was nice but personally I'd rather find that closer to Disney and in a place I felt a little more safe.

Thanks a lot! I would love to find somewhere closer, but it's basically impossible! Most places close to Disney are condos that are for long term rent...hopefully I'll find something :veryconfu

I heard from a guy who had a perfessional internship that he was able to rent from the complex that is basically across the street from Cast connection. He said that as long as they notified management 2 weeks(maybe months) before they moved out that they were let out of the contract. I believe the place is something Buena Vista. I'm sorry I don't know the exact name but I'm sure someone else on here knows.

The only problem with Buena Vista Place is that it's low income housing, some Disney employees actually make too much money to live there especially if they have roommates who also work for Disney.
