lining up for the bus

What I hate is waiting in a very long line for a bus. It finally shows up and someone in a scooter shows up. They get first dibbs along with their entire family. By the time they are seated there is nothing left for the rest of us. This happened so many times last Christmas.
When we were there last month, at the parks they were making the scooters go through the line like everyone else, then they had a handicap access near the front of the line and they waited for the next bus. Seemed much more fair to everyone involved. Of course, that was not the case at the resorts.

We saw the worst bus fight ever on Christmas morning at CSR. There were no lines for the buses. When the MK bus pulled up a family came running up and tried to cut in front of the crowd. Well, one dad wasn't going to have it...and the two dads went at it right there..yelling, cussing, pushing, shoving...they didn't get on the bus and neither did their families. It was sad watching all those poor kids stay behind on Christmas day while security and CM's dealt with their hothead dads.

But other than that one day, we haven't noticed it to be a problem and we have stayed at other Mods and many deluxe w/o incident. I'd guess time of day, time of year, crowds and temps. all play a part in the civility of others to others.

I was at a Value in August- it was so hot waiting for the buses in those chain queues. We were roasting in the sun for 15-20 min at a pop! Yes, if there was one thing I would change about the Values it would be to cover their bus lines.
They are covered at AoA. Just take a quick hike over the bridge!

we stayed at the French quarter a few years back. enjoyed it, but hated the bus stop. didn't matter if you got there 1st or not. when the bus pulls in & the doors open, it's a free for all.
why can't they have a chain line like the parks do when returning to the resorts do instead of everyone cutting in?
How would that work at POFQ where there is only one bus stop for all the busses? When would I know to queue up? Would I let the people who are in the chain queue skip ahead of me because I'm waiting for a MK bus but the EPCOT bus shows first?

That is why there are no chain queues at the moderates. The way the busses work there (not having dedicated stops by destination) won't work. Rather, there is one stop at your resort (or section) and all the busses stop there in rotation.

Hmmm. Did the GF take away their stop? Not only covered and in-theme benches but they had a CM attendant who kept track of which bus was coming, how far out, and had an idea of where you were going. Great service.

I think that you do not see the lines at the deluxe resorts because they are more than one mode of transportation to the MK and Epcot. The Beach and Yacht Clubs and The BW have busses and boats. We stayed at the WL 2X and they have busses and boats to the MK. Your can walk or take the monorail or a bus to the MK from the CR. Sometimes there is a line for the monorail but it is quite orderly. The most pleasant bus stop is the GF. The stop very large and is covered with, if I remember correctly, about 10-12 long benches in 2 rows. It is unfortunate that value resorts cannot provide the same comfort. Maybe it is because there are busses to all of the parks and there is no space. :cat:

It's also a matter of the number of rooms at the resort, and thus the maximum capacity of that hotel.

The All-Stars and AoA have a little more than 1900 rooms each. Pop Century has almost 2900.
Compare that to the GF's 870 or the Poly's 847 or the smallest, the Yacht Club at 630.

In between those extremes you have the Moderates with large numbers of rooms (Coronado at 1900, CBR 2100, etc) but with multiple bus stops to spread the crowds out.

The individual queues at the large Value resorts are a requirement to keep some semblance of order.

15 minutes? I always though it was 20 minutes.....

Anyway, speaking from a crowded bus stop experience, I go to Rutgers and I've got to say our bus system is a complete joke. Not only are the drivers careless and negligent in their driving, I'd say the behavior of the students is worse. It's a constant free for all at the bus stops, particularly when classes end. There's no chained lines and everyone crowds around the doors. Sometimes, they don't give any room at all for people who are trying to get off! For me when classes end, I have to wait at least 20 minutes or even more after I arrive just to get on one bus! But unfortunately for some people, it's the only way to get around from class to class because all of the campuses are very spread out. People drive but people are constantly being given parking tickets so it's not really worth it and in some cases, biking is not possible.

Considering that I've only stayed values, I never realized that the non-value hotels didn't have the chain link lines until now. But I mean, I feel that you can do some planning to prevent yourself from trying to fight with others just to have a seat. (For example, don't head straight to the buses after Wishes.) I know at Rutgers, we do have a system where wait times are posted so if you're not in need to rush to another place per say, you can, like me, wait for another bus where you can a seat to your liking. I sincerely hope that wait times for the buses will be posted at every single resort. It wouldn't completely alleviate the problem, but in my book, it would certainly help. Otherwise, having a set schedule like what public transportation systems have in major cities is something I think Disney Transport should strongly consider. But honestly, the Disney bus service, while it does have flaws, I find it to be miles better than anything Rutgers has ever done with their buses and their service. That's just me though.
After going to Rutgers, any other crowd trying to get onto public transportation is going to seem easy in comparison. Sneaking through crowds of dumb Freshman to board a bus will prepare you for making your way onto any crowded bus or train.

That, my friend, is what we used to refer to as an R-U Screw (one of many). Glad to see it hasn't changed much since my days as an undergrad.

So true...if you get there first and decide to sit....then someone else comes and positions themselves at the drop off point.....awkward
