lining up for the bus

we stayed at the French quarter a few years back. enjoyed it, but hated the bus stop. didn't matter if you got there 1st or not. when the bus pulls in & the doors open, it's a free for all.
why can't they have a chain line like the parks do when returning to the resorts do instead of everyone cutting in?

That's weird. We stayed there in 2012 and never had a problem with people jumping the line for the bus. In fact, loved it there so much we are staying there again this summer

No chain lines! Then you are forced to stand!!

I much prefer sitting on a bench, or the ground, and relax and wait for a bus to come.

But, for the record, it is a sin that Disney makes its Value Resort Guests stand outside in the elements in a chain maze. It could be pouring rain or blazing heat, and they gotta stand there exposed to those elements.

Give me the convenience and calmness of a covered waiting area with benches, anyday. And I've not seen your problem of cutting in all of my many trips, so I do consider myself lucky.

Art of Animation has shelter for their bus queues...Here's hoping Pop will eventually get it..I hope..

To the OP, my family and I feel your pain, we normally stay at Riverside (still call it Dixie Landings to this day, though) the quality and timing for the bus service has really gone downhill over the past decade and a half. Yes, it's a great perk for staying on-site, but the whole buses show up every 15 minutes line is a joke. Sometimes you won't see a bus for the park you want to go to, while there's 3 buses in a row for another park, that nobody's waiting for, and then there's the mob situation as you described.

The queue-less bus stops seem like a good idea, but if there's a crowd waiting for a bus, it becomes Lord of the Flies very quickly. We left dinner at Boma a few years ago now and were headed to MK for MSEP and fireworks. We must have just missed the MK bus, because it was at least 20 minutes before the next MK bus came. As the time wore on, the crowd got a little bit bigger, a little big bigger. There was a growing awareness that not everyone might get on the bus. People maybe surreptitiously shuffled a little closer to the front of the sidewalk. OK, now there's definitely a full bus load of people waiting. Where's that darn MK bus? Downtown Disney, Downtown Disney, Animal Kingdom (already closed by that point), Downtown Disney.... ooh, MK! WHAT?!?!? HALF FULL ALREADY WITH PEOPLE FROM KIDANI?!?!?!??!?! It was not pretty, my friend. Thankfully, I was able to mow everyone down with my Nimitz-class stroller.

I think it's a tragedy that Pop and the All-Stars don't have coverings for their bus stops. I understand that nicer hotels get some nicer things, but I think protection from the sun/rain when you could be waiting out there for extended periods of time is a basic courtesy. Just put up some fabric awnings... can't be that expensive. AoA seems like it has the perfect setup: covered stops with queues.

We must have got lucky staying at Riverside this August. In 21 days we never had to wait more than about 20 minutes, although there were times we had 3 EPCOT buses for every 1 Magic Kingdom.

Leaving MK there were some big queues at the POR bus stop on a couple of nights, but the CMs quickly got extra buses and the queues disappeared.

The worst I saw it was at Downtown Disney, we made the mistake of using the 'Pleasure Island' bus stops instead of marketplace, every bus that came was already full from the Marketplace stops, the next time I knew to go to Marketplace instead.

One thing that did confuse me (and some others on the buses), is that some buses stop at South Depot first and some stop there last, but only a few drivers bothered to say this. The first time the bus skipped South I got off at West and walked, lets just say there's a reason I payed extra for building 14, the walk is a lot longer than it looks on a map.

How do you have lines for several different busses at the same bus stop? I can only think of 2 occasions when we didn't make it on a bus. Once was leaving a park at the end of the night and another was early morning leaving boardwalk (which ironically had the worst bus service). We had good bus service at port orleans and the best service at Coronado.

Someone else said 15 minutes is a joke
15 minute wait for a bus is not a joke. It is actually very good if they do show in that time frame.

Must there be a queue for everything? You'll be in plenty of them in the park. I stayed at POFQ and I found that people regulating themselves, offering others to go first, etc. worked just fine.
This was my experience as well. They always offered us to go first because of my mother and in turn we also offered families with small children the chance to enter the bus first as well. I was extremely impressed with everyone staying at POFQ! I believe the only time there was a line was on the day MK had AM EMH. I didn't join because I was going to EPCOT on that particular day.

15 minutes? I always though it was 20 minutes.....

Anyway, speaking from a crowded bus stop experience, I go to Rutgers and I've got to say our bus system is a complete joke. Not only are the drivers careless and negligent in their driving, I'd say the behavior of the students is worse. It's a constant free for all at the bus stops, particularly when classes end. There's no chained lines and everyone crowds around the doors. Sometimes, they don't give any room at all for people who are trying to get off! For me when classes end, I have to wait at least 20 minutes or even more after I arrive just to get on one bus! But unfortunately for some people, it's the only way to get around from class to class because all of the campuses are very spread out. People drive but people are constantly being given parking tickets so it's not really worth it and in some cases, biking is not possible.

Considering that I've only stayed values, I never realized that the non-value hotels didn't have the chain link lines until now. But I mean, I feel that you can do some planning to prevent yourself from trying to fight with others just to have a seat. (For example, don't head straight to the buses after Wishes.) I know at Rutgers, we do have a system where wait times are posted so if you're not in need to rush to another place per say, you can, like me, wait for another bus where you can a seat to your liking. I sincerely hope that wait times for the buses will be posted at every single resort. It wouldn't completely alleviate the problem, but in my book, it would certainly help. Otherwise, having a set schedule like what public transportation systems have in major cities is something I think Disney Transport should strongly consider. But honestly, the Disney bus service, while it does have flaws, I find it to be miles better than anything Rutgers has ever done with their buses and their service. That's just me though.

What I hate is waiting in a very long line for a bus. It finally shows up and someone in a scooter shows up. They get first dibbs along with their entire family. By the time they are seated there is nothing left for the rest of us. This happened so many times last Christmas.

I was at a Value in August- it was so hot waiting for the buses in those chain queues. We were roasting in the sun for 15-20 min at a pop! Yes, if there was one thing I would change about the Values it would be to cover their bus lines.
