Limited Edition Pins

Pin Traders at Downtown Disney has the widest selection of pins in general. Epcot's shop under Spaceship Earth is also a great spot for pins. They still have pin trading tables there.

Pins are not the hobby they used to be and most Limited Edition pins can be found well after their release dates. Only certain characters and collections are exceptions to this. Long gone are the days where you would line up early for pin releases. I would suggest taking a look at Disney's official Pin site (www.odpt.com) and seeing what you might like and then just picking it up from wherever it was released.

Really? Thats a little sad to hear. I just started getting into the pins, more because of the artistic aspect than the trading though. I think, for the money, they are well designed and a great Disney collectable, especially the older ones. Much more than most of the vinylmation I think.

Is it the type of thing that goes in and out of popularity?

Don't get me wrong, the hobby is still alive and well, but oversaturation has made people really work on collecting and not just going for the new releases. When the hobby started 10 years ago limited edition and mystery pins weren't coming out nearly as often as they do now, so people made it a point to get those since they would have a high value. Now they release many more pins for each holiday, event, time of year, etc so they don't have the intrinsic value that they used to have. Some pins with very limited releases (500 or less) are still highly desirable and they do sell out quickly. Certain characters and attractions are also harder to get as well and tend to move faster. But the days of people getting to the parking lots at 4am for wristbands are long gone on the east coast.

We were there in September. I found that the best places to get pins anywhere on property were at the Contemporary in the fantasia shop. They had lots of limiteds. The second best place was the frontier shop in Magic Kingdom. Lots of pins and some very nice framed pins and limteds. The Halloween pins during the halloween party had everyone lined up. Those pins were only available during the party. The last place was at downtown disney pin traders. They didnt seem to have as many limiteds but there were a few. The employees there seemed to have nice pins to trade. One word of advice, if you see a pin you want or like buy it then. I bought one pin out of a set and didnt realize that it was part of a limited set. Went back to where I got and they were all gone. Searched everywhere for the rest of the trip and finally found the rest of the set on the last day at the Contemporary. Buy them when you see them. While its true that it seems the hobby is dying a little. You will have plenty of pins to check out while your there. Good luck and hav fun!!

I'll second the Contemporary--they have some really nice pins there.
