Likelihood that SW: GE opens by second week of Dec.

Not sure of the exact dates, but I can tell you for quite a few years in the past FD has covered at the very least Christmas, if not New Years as well. We have spent about 5 Christmases at Disney, always with Free Dining.
Travel dates for 2018 for Free Dining were 8/20/18-12/23/18, however, if you checked in on 12/23, you would still have Free Dining for the length of your stay.

First Free Dining we did was '07 and that was their policy then and has been since. It is then possible as you said to have free dining after the cut off date. Side note: POR in '07 was included, but not for some time now.

I booked for Nov 2-8 with the hope it would NOT be open yet (would rather avoid extra crowds). But now I’m concerned maybe I’ll end up there on opening week....oh, the irony 😆. There’s no beating the Mouse. What do y’all think, any chance it will open as early as first week of November?

is estimating the SWGE won't be open until the December, 18-20th, literally the end of Fall. They base this on newly released ticket pricing out for that time period. Maybe they want to add to the movie release hype by adding the new land hype in WDW at the same time. I'm thinking they are worried about the lack luster reception of the last 2 movies that keeping SW:GE opening for the extra hype will help. Heck I wouldn't be surprised that the movie makes a mention of Batuu/ Black Spire Outpost in some way or they even go as far as having a scene there. They already have books and other media referencing the location. Any tie in of the new land and the movie and the WDW opening will create enough buzz that might get someone on the fence on the movie but a old SW fan who hated the last 2 movies to go and actually see SW:Ep9.
Now that I think about it, having DL already open gives a view into the land, then the movie, and same land opening up as the movie is coming out. Just keep dropping crumbs along to go see the movie for any mention...
My 2 cents...

Yes we have experienced this year after year.
I should have quoted and responded to SirWillow who wrote:

I did overlook and forget about the free dining plan. I tend to think of discounts more on tickets and actual lodging prices than the dining, as often the "free dining" is hidden in higher room rates. Not always, but often. :)

You're going by what they said last October?!

They wound up being very wrong about the price increase. And since then, Disney itself cut them off at the knees by switching the 'release date' from "Late Fall" to "Fall."

Plus, this ties up the hate that a small but very vocal minority of SW fans had to Ep 8 into plans for the land, which will have absolutely zero effect on crowds. SW is much bigger than its last movie.

So, now you know why you can't actually link to that site here.

High chance - it could well be open before then.

A key driver (and sign to watch for) is when they start advertising positions in the land (performers etc). It’s been reported elsewhere that DL starts cast training next month... I also predict 4-6 weeks of preview events at both parks.
Well, then, please let me know when this has been advertised! I'll be watching this thread for your updates, since I have no idea where Disney advertises open positions at DW. Thank you in advance for your perseverance.

The UK free dining that was launched last year for this year ended on November 30, and there was a lot less room available for booking across all resorts when it was available. Most of the DVC resorts could not be booked at all after September.

May give an indication as to what will happen later this year. Or maybe not!
