Because they have no idea or don't care to have any idea of how real people use or interact with the parks.

They should evaluate and test the developers based on having a family of 5 with a limited budget take a first time trip and have them successfully use the system without it going to pot.

Make their jobs dependent on it.
They made their choice on how parks would run today over 10 years ago

For 12/23 Genie+ is $29 which is the highest level it reached over Thanksgiving. Wouldn’t be surprised if they increased it further before the holiday season is over.
I think Iger stated they were capping it at $25 when his “triumphant return” happened?

…but apparently those couple more bucks will get the stock price back up to $190 a share? 🤔

Needed some extra profit for the following:

- executive Christmas party celebrating the return of Bob #1 who created most of the #2

- new popcorn bucket R&D

- pay for all the excess 50th celebration merch they’ll never sell

- redesign of a return/new nighttime shows for MK and Epcot since the previous they (wasted) money on failed

- Lysol for monorail smells

I hate to say it... but they might have found the tipping point. It's 8:50am on the friday before Christmas and every single ride (even SDD and ROTR) has ILL or LL available

I am NOT a fan of Genie or Genie+, but I don’t think people are aware of how much data the app uses and how much it is capable of.

Some of you jump on the app to see availability. You should know that what you see on Genie is not the same thing everyone else sees. Wait times, LL/ILL availability, pricing, etc. are all affected by what Disney knows about you: your preferences, location, age, previous parks visits, your likelihood to make a purchase, etc.

It’s a pretty powerful tool.

Which makes it even more frustrating that they’re not using it to manage crowding or make visits more fun.

I couldn't imagine them even successfully showing different ride availability to individuals in order to change their behavior, even if they wanted to. It took them months to figure out how to add "Modify" back in. What makes you think that they have different LL availability for different users based on the age or preferences?

They don’t. Genie+ could do a lot more than it does with the data they have but we all know how disneys technical skills are. We are lucky our bands get us in the park

How awful is that 50th merch???

Nobody has tried to pull off that much purple and gold since Emperor Nero’s last violin concerto

Disney has been doing this for years when it comes to pricing and availability of resort rooms. They use cookies to track your behavior across their sites and assess your likelihood of booking. Then they show you pricing and availability based on that information.

If they can identify you further (which Genie does), they then factor in past trip behaviors (your likelihood to pay a bit more for a moderate resort room or for ILL, for example), your Disney+/Hulu/ESPN/ABC viewing history, demographic info, etc., and then adjust what it shows you accordingly in order to try to influence your behavior.

I’d encourage you to check out Disney’s Company-wide Privacy Policy and their Online Tracking policy statement.

The wait times don’t always match because they systems are not in real time and not all the same.

Right. And have you wondered why that is? Part of it is to limit battery and data usage on users’ devices. But they are separate systems so that might be able to manipulate what’s displayed on the app.

It’s advertising + variable room rates. You don’t think they do this?

They aren’t manipulating what’s on someone’s app vs someone else or people in the same party would notice

Also they aren’t showing different resort or package prices to different people based on who you are and your Disney habits because you can see pricing without being logged in on multiple devices with different cookies and IPs

I know what you’re saying, I’m just saying I’ve not see differences in pricing or wait time across apps, browsers, IPs, or parties (that aren’t linked)

They do not show different wait times to different people. The system that posts wait times to electronic queue signage is the same system sending the wait time to the app. They can not intentionally send a different wait time to one and not the other. However, the different systems update and refresh at different rates which is what causes the perceived discrepancies. This can cause the in park signage to not always align with the app and sometimes even not align app to app. For example guests using iPhones vs androids will see wait times refresh at different rates.

Resort rates are also not variable. There are documented tariff cards that outline what the rack rate for every day of the year for each individual room type would be. They do not change. For example The rack rate for a non preferred standard view room, with two queen beds at port Orleans on June 1 will be the same for everyone. Different guests and types of guests may have access to discounts and promotions that may lower the price. Additionally when you think you’re seeing different prices it’s usually because it’s quoting you for a different room category.
