Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World

But to say no one has fun at Disney anymore is ridiculous.
Yes, to say that would be ridiculous, which I why I did not say it, or even imply it. Of course people have fun there. Everyone does in fact.

Having fun, however, does not invalidate my critique that Disney World is not the kind of place now that it was years ago. Please read my post again.

I said that: in my opinion, Disney apologists are jaded by a sense of nostalgia and loyalty; many kids today prefer Universal to Disney; and that those kids being introduced to the Disney World of today will not have the same sense of nostalgia for and loyalty to it that we adults do.

My first time was as a child in 1991, then as a teen in 1996, and then as a young adult in 2001. I resumed going in 2017 and haven't looked back.
I'm surprised as a young adult you never got into high thrilling rides and amusement parks. I say that cause I have seen it said here a lot how teens and young adults would rather go to Universal as they have more thrilling rides.

HS has always been a challenge to juggle rides and shows because the opportunities are less. Genie+ I don't really think will be able to resolve that. I've never been able to figure out how to see Indy, BatB, Frozen, eat lunch, ride ToT, RR, Slinky, and visit Launch Bay for characters in the same day. Then by the time we used all the FP we could, it was still a couple hours till Fantasmic and got a bit boring because we had already rode what we wanted and no more shows were scheduled.
Also wonder if Genie+ will do the same for shows as FP did and require arrival 20 minutes beforehand.

I would still prefer a pre-pay option at booking. I would be easier to accept paying say $5240 for a vacation package, and have 4 Individual attractions to select, opposed to $5000 and being hit up for $60 each morning.
I'm a bit worried about how my bank will handle multiple mini transactions as Disney calls them. My account was flagged for fraud and had to spend an hour on the phone with the bank last time we went in 2019 because of how magicband room charges were being done (immediate hold). The lady did mention transactions of the same amount within a short period of time i.e. less than an hour, raised a fraud flag.
I haven't read if the ILL purchases will be direct charge to card, or if it can charge to room either. Difference being we go with discounted GCs and pay off room charges, tiny savings but still.

if we add Genie+ or IAS day of, how does the payment work? we're traveling with extended family and they are all in my MDE account. We're all on the same reservation together. is there a way to link up different credit cards to different people? or could they create their own MDE account and add their credit card that way? it'd be easier for each family to pay as they go vs trying to determine at the end what the split was

Personally, I would have them create their own MDE accounts and link their own credit card. There are 4 adults on our trip - I manage plans for everyone, but they each have their own MDE. So if we decide to buy Genie for any of our days, each of us will add it on our own. But I will make the lightning lane passes for all of us (the "free" ones).

For the pay attractions - if we buy one - either I will buy them all at once and they can buy me a drink later, or we will each have to buy our own and try to pick the same ride times!

Anytime we travel we let the bank know where we are going and never had a problem with the bank stopping our transactions

I tried to set up travel alerts this time around and my bank (Bank of America) doesn't do them anymore for checking accounts or credit cards! They said it's not needed because they send texts if something seems off. Same with American Express.

We will see I guess!

My banks don’t do them unless traveling international. It was the multiple under $100 transactions in less than an hour that triggered it. We were doing souvenir shopping after a QS dinner.

I can't get a straight answer on how Disney does holds.

I thought they put one $100 hold on your account - then they process all the charges at once when you hit that $100. Then it starts over again. So feasibly, it shouldn't be a lot of charges, only 2?

(also, my first vacation day has now made it into the 10 day weather forecast! :D)

I wouldn't worry about it. You're either going to be adding Genie+ in the morning (so $15 x however many in your group) and/or purchasing ILL which would be 2 transactions max per day. I wouldn't think either of those would set off an alert.

I’ve always been a Disney fan first and foremost. My ability to stomach extreme thrill rides was never very good and is now essentially nonexistent.

What happened with us was: They do the initial hold at check-in, then when you exceed that $100 they do another hold and continue to do holds but charges do not process until resort check-out or every 5 days.
So QS $89.95 no hold triggered, first shop $86.93 hold, 2nd shop $75.93 hold placed, 3rd shop $92.84 attempted and denied. The attempt at a 3rd hold in the same hour raised a flag. It didn't require charges to be completed. This was a month after they had implemented the changes, so it made things a bit of a headache.

Oh wow. That's not how I thought it worked! :D

I plan to just use google pay and gift cards for most of our purchases! Dinners I'll just use a credit card and pay it back when I get home.

Again it is the "multiple transactions" under $100 (there's 3 of us) within an hour that can trigger it with my bank. All it took was an attempt at a 3rd shop to trigger. The bank logic behind it being multiple mini-transactions in a short period of time can be someone testing a stolen card before making a large transaction.
