Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World

Maxpass was just convenience you could still walk to get a fastoass for free. This eliminates that period. Coupled with no add on for APs.
It makes ZERO sense to sell an “add on” for APS.

none

1. You’re fixing your revenue at will likely be at discounted rate
2. You’re encouraging the frequenters…who statistically spend less on high profit out of pocket products…to show up/mob more.

the sequence wasn’t accidental:
1. Disneyland passes first
2. Ride upcharge second (Disneyland AP: “I guess we aren’t getting any?😡”)
3. Wdw AP (“great! Now I can buy more magic!!!”)

not a coincidence

I don’t think that works…

because if genie tells you the next window for buzz is 50 minutes later and you have a reservation in 45…people get a might bit ticked
If it's truly like legacy FP, the you just wait 10 or 20 minutes or however long until the rolling window of availability meets your needs. Plus, it has the added benefit of not needing to backtrack to the attraction to pull the piece of paper.

It won't be as efficient as FP+, but some folks are gonna win and some are gonna lose with this new setup. It appears fortune favors the flexible in this case.

They did. We usually did Epcot as an evening park and we were never able to get them for Soarin'. Also, some of the return times in the first park were so late that we weren't able to use them because we wanted to take a break mid-day or go to another park in the evening.
Paper fastpasses ran out rather quickly or were only really late on even moderate crowd days as time wore on…
In the early to mid 00’s…it showed them they had capacity issues with rising attendance.

what happened after?

Apparently they already have it in MDE. So it's just going to move I guess.
Walk up has been in mde for at least my last two trips and likely a lot longer. You go to reservations and select "now" instead of day and time. Might have some interface changes but it's been available. I use it a lot for dining flexibility

Maybe I should have said., "it won't be as effective as FP+ if you had a resort stay and planned everything minute by minute 60 days out". I was a big fan of the early park openings during covid bc I had a hard time getting fp+ for marquee rides. I'm curious to see how this all plays out.

They are outrageously monetizing another formerly cost-free perk. That's all I need to know to hate it. Only blood-sucking Disney could create a vacation experience with all of the pleasantness of a barium enema combined with the cost of a new car.

Disney was the last holdout NOT charging.

We’ve known this was coming for well over a year. All things considered the fact you can keep most of your “cost-free perk,” despite it having been mostly a shell game wherein you skip the waits for a couple rides but make up for that gained time in barely moving standby lines, for $15/day, is pretty decent. Especially when you don’t have to decide what you want to do 60+ days out.

Ask anyone who used MaxPass, they felt it was well worth the cost.

The giant PR mistake Disney made was the individual attraction purchases. This would have gone much smoother if they had left that part out.

Which is rather dumb and unfair as what if for each new attraction they do VQ and BG? Imagine if Tron and GoTG open with this as well. That’s FOUR e-tickets that even after the hundreds or even thousands you’ve paid for this vacation, you now have no guarantee or getting to ride and have to drop another $60 per ride (family of four) or more for each ride. And that’s if you get them before the Genie determines the VQ is full for the day.

Aye carumba.

Just remember how many people defended ROTR boaridng groups on this very board. Remember its so neccessary due to demand and capacity. Well when it becomes the norm....

Until you face the reality that there was no reason at all to charge for it beyond 'because they can' -- I mean the company was already giving the functionality away at WDW. Disney threw in photopass to justify the price - but you all know you were buying it for digital fastpass... which was free elsewhere.
