After this whole ordeal with Afgan, do you think Disney World security will ever get back to how it was before everything happened? or do you think security will always be heavier than what it used to be? not that i'm saying the security was scarce, just that i've heard it's heavier than it ever has been....just like every other place that has security.

Unfortunately, I think security everywhere is going to lighten up eventually. I don't think this should happen... but I just see it coming.

Well, let's hope that we can have security like it was before. But now in this day, we can't take any chances. I think everyone will step up security and keep it that way, because they realize terrorism is a big problem. I don't think we will see security like it was unless we wipe out terrorism, which as I believe is impossible.

We weren't really secure before all of this happened - we just believed the illusion of security. Everything that has happened shows us how vulnerable we are but in true American fashion, we will eventually forget and gradually let our guard down.

I have always thought you Americans have been really lucky not having to put up with all these Security checks. I think I may have said this before but they are pretty common here in the UK and it is nothing to be searched going into a major tourist attraction, particulary in London. major sporting events are also like this. I don't think things will ever return to normal I think that what happens is you forget it was ever any other way and accept it, it can be a pain in the butt, but isn't it better than the alternative?

I totally agree. I have not seen so much security at a public place since the 1996 Olympics. I was there the day that the Centennial Olympic Park re-opened after the bombing. Bags were checked several times that day.:lookaroun

Tink, I heard a prayer today..I don't remember the source... "Lord, please teach us how to laugh again, but never let us forget why we cried."

i guess i kinda have a problem with security checking bags is because i have never ever had any personal property searched through like that in my life! i don't know why that seems to bother me, but it does. there's never been any reason for me to get checked. hopefully i get passed that once though, i'll be alright every other time they do it.

but if they're checking bags at parks, shouldn't they be checking them at hotels too? i mean, someone could just as easily have a bomb in a suitcase and take it into a hotel.

Balance of security

Growing up in and around Washington, DC, I'm used to being stopped, identified, searched . . . It's always been an inconvenience, sometimes annoying, and often makes us re-think where and especially when we go places in our city.

Having all of this come to WDW is disheartening, but of course, necessary. All it takes is one lunatic, and looking for that one comes at the expense of the rest of us. Until "the rest of us" feel safer about the strangers arond us, we'll need this obstacle. Price of freedom and so forth.

Dizknee: the checks at WDW aren't that bad..they just breeze over your bag to make sure you aren't carrying anything really bad....

If you want an invasion of privacy, you should have been with me and my fiancee when we were randomly selected to have our luggage opened in front of us and totally unpacked by airport security. Nothing says embarassment than somebody else going through your underwear. I've decided every time I travel, I"m gonna bring a whole suitcase packed with Preperation H...that way if I have to open up my suitcases, they'll have a good story to tell.

My point is this: My fiancee and I both suffered this embarassment and we're fine with it, because we think it is vital to public security.

Now if you want to address that the random inspection made us late for our plane...that's a whole other matter. Good thing security got us through in a hurry for slowing us down. We got to go to the front of the x-ray line.....

ALl I'm saying is we have to make sacrifices for the common good.

I think every American has absolutely no problem with that... and if they do, I think they need to be reminded of how the events of 9/11 happened.

indeed! personally, i have no problem what-so-ever with Disney uping their security because 1. i know it's absolutely nessasary for the safety of their guests, and 2. i know Disney will do it very respectively in consideration of their guests. but it's definately going to take a little while for me to get used to it.

Hey, Fievel! Security would definately have some stories to tell if you did that!! :D i wonder what they would do if someone came in and all their suitcases were empty? it'd be pointless, but i'm sure it'd be rather funny to see their reactions!
btw, i'm glad the random security check didn't make you two miss your flight!

Today I had to work, but I entered the park as a guest. Security went in my bag with a flashlight. They also had several Orange County Sheriffs Deputies across the resort - heck I saw 4 police cars backstage @ MK alone.. I usually see 1 on property.

For CM's, we're now required to have our IDs on a lanyard, bags are searched upon entry and exit (instead of just exit), there are security guards all over the tunnels.. it's almost like a real job (that's not a good thing). But still, it does add to the sense of security.

Some security CM's are being a bit overzealous though:hammer: - Cinderella walked by a security guard (in full attire) and was stopped for not wearing her ID.
