Here's a letter I just received today.
+++++++++

Dear === Family,

We'd like to thank you for attending the exclusive Disney Passholder party to celebrate the opening of Chester & Hester's Dino-Rama! It was an event the drew more Disney Passholders than we could have ever have imagined in a million years...make that 35 million.
We realize trying to accommodate so many of our valued Guests into this new addition to Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park was a bit like squeezing a brontosaurus into one's backyard. Please know that such an occurrence was unexpected. Guest satisfaction always has been, and always will be, a Walt Disney World priority,
In addition, if you received your limited-edition lithograph during the Saturday, May 18 event, we hope that you are enjoying it. If you did not receive your lithograph and gave us your address, you should be receiving one in 6-8 weeks.
Week thank you for your understanding, and look forward to your next magical Disney visit, along with your participation at future Passholder events.
Sincerely,
Amy K. Foster
Passholder Programs
P.S. As a token of our gratitude for your patience and continued patronage, we'd like to treat you to four complimentary boxes of popcorn the next time you visit. Just bring the enclsed vouchers, along with your Passholder ID, to a popcorn location in either Discovery Island or Africa in Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park before November 30, 2002.

Anyway that's a very nice letter, unless you didn't get a lithograph.

Discovery Island is the name of an area in AK. I think it's the area between the entrance and the Tree of Life.

I did get the lithograph but am now wondering. It was a limited edition. Are they going to print more or print something else?

Limited edition, as in limited to Passholders only...they weren't expecting as many passholders as showed up, so I'm assuming there will be more made.

Since they weren't expecting so many people, there were only 6500 printed. Since the crowd was so large, they just will print more of the same. There will probally be 10,000 prints by the time everyone there receives a lithograph.

It would be interesting to find out. The card that says only so many were printed also says the plates were destroyed. Interesting.

I heard there were only about 3000 people there at the event, no way dinorama would have held 6000 bodies. It was packed as it was. They probably just didn't bring the rest of the 6500 to AK, maybe they were for cast members or something... All I know is they were starting to run out when I was there, I walked up to the front from where the rest of my family was standing, back around the first big corner from the Rainforest exit, and there was a mob surrounding the people handing them out. Anyone who presented the papers was getting them, no real order to it. The only reason I got all of mine was I ran back and got the papers, then managed to get into the mob just before they ran out. Still a huge line almost back to the big bridge when we finally got out of there.

What a mess for WDW planning. They obviously had no clue about the possible turnout. Seems everyone and his mother showed up.

Yep, they had no way of knowing this many people would show up.

It was at least 3 to 4 times as many people who normally show up to these AP events.

It may have been planning, but when you plan for the number of guest you usually have, and 3 times as many show up, you run into problems.

I had more problems from seeing the absolutely un-excusable rude behavior from the AP'ers in how they were treating the CM's who were trying to deal with the evening.

Discovery Island=Safari Village. It's the land on the island the Tree of Life is on...the area between that and the entrance is The Oasis. By the way, there were more than a few thousand people at this even...turkey leg boy was close...and they didn't all fit into Dino-Rama...that was a complaint this letter hoped to clear up.

I am just surprised to have received the letter. I think it was a good idea for Disney to send it. The letter shows that they recognize the event did not turn out as they hoped.

I saw two lines. One very long line was for people filing out their name and address and the other was empty for people who didn't. I just walked up with no problem.

They didn't start with the name-and-address stuff until after they began to run low. That super-long line was for the lithos until they started running low, then it became the n-a-a line.

I suspect the second line was people who were just leaving without getting it, I did see some folks just bugging out.
You may have done what I did, skip the line and just cut in front of everyone. Since there were no ropes anywhere, it was kind of wild up by the gates...

I just got that letter today.

If you don't like popcorn, give it to the ducks. Donald said so.

If you DO like popcorn, give it to the ducks. Donald said so. (For your own good, the popcorn is unhealthy. Yea, thats the trick...)

Go ahead, but don't blame me for laughing at you when you get chased by a duck or any other bird.

You wanna get chased by a duck? Go ask Donald if he has any good recipies for "Roast Duck" and watch the feathers fly...

My sister and I did that in the Contemporary one time, and the helper CM had to call him off... He was waving his arms, stomping the feet, and just generally throwing a major hissy fit. :lol:

The guy who was playing Donald that time was really into the part... Cheers to that guy.
