Pre-Trip Lets throw our plans aside, get hitched and honeymoon in Disney World

Let me start by saying that this is my first trip report of any form so I hope I don't bore you.

Me and my fiancé made our first trip to Disney World in August of 2010. At this point in our relationship we had been dating for roughly 2 1/2 years. We had made short day trips to places like Tulsa, St. Louis and Memphis but this was our first true "vacation" that we had taken together. Obviously we fell in love with the place. We had each been several times as children but in 2010 we were both in our early twenties and the experience was just unbelievable.

Since that trip we have been back each year. August of 2011 with my brother and my mom, July 2012 with just the two of us, and July 2013 with some friends of ours. I proposed on July 7th at Main Street USA this past summer. The trip was one of the best yet. We had stayed at PoP Century for every trip but on our latest excursion I moved us over to the Polynesian on the proposal day (roughly half of our trip).

Now to the plan. Seeing as that we love Disney so much our honeymoon destination would no doubt be in central Florida. The wedding day was set for June 28, 2014. A small ceremony in the backyard of the house that we would have purchased and had renovated between January and the wedding day. Every detail had been planned (due to the length of our dating) and all we were waiting for was the days to get here. The honeymoon was set to be from the 28th-July 9th at the Polynesian. We had plans to visit Universal and Islands of Adventure for one day each, rent a car, do some resort hoping and dining, spa, fireworks cruise, cabana by the pool……….. I could go on but Im sure that the fact that it was a Disneymoon by Disney vets would give you an idea. It was going to be perfect.

Then, this past Friday my fiancé presents the idea of us getting married (no wedding) and heading down for a quick three night four day "honeymoon" to the world in December. We each have the week of Christmas and New Years off of work so we could get by without having to move around any time off that we already had scheduled. Oh and there is the fact that the two of us have wanted to see the property at Christmas time. I was a little hesitant and then she threw out the idea of still going in June/July.

Of course I agreed to this. So now we will get married in December, head down on December 20th-23rd for a stay at Wilderness Lodge. This is a resort that we have heard such good things about on the inter webs and on podcasts (the several that I am hooked on) so we figured we had to see the place. We eventually would like to stay at all of them but we can picture ourselves at the different resorts at different times of the year. For instance we would not want to stay at the WL in the summer we would prefer Poly. At the same time we don't want to stay at the Poly in December, we would prefer WL or Contemporary. We know we are weird but certain resorts seem more appealing at different times of the year to us.

The plan is to see MK, EPCOT, and HS as far as parks go. We will be annual pass holders starting with this trip and we will purchase tickets to MVMCP on the 20th and attend after our dinner at Artist Point shortly after arrival. We will rent a car from the Swan rental location on the 21st (this will be the first time that we will be renting a car) and touring AKL, BC, YC, BW. Of course we will hit all of the monorail resorts too. You can see that our park time will be somewhat limited this trip but, we feel like we have seen the parks enough that it is time to venture out and see other areas throughout the 42 square miles that is Disney World.

This will be a very different trip than any other that we have taken and we are nervous. We want to be sure that we really get to experience the Christmas spirit that Disney puts their twist on while still hitting some of our favorite attractions. There are just things that are unknown to us. What to wear in December? How will the rental car be? How will annual passes be? How will WL be? Not to mention the fact that we have never booked a trip with such short notice and the ADR situation was a little grim last night….

Now that you've fumbled your way through my lengthy post I ask for any advice that you might have for making a trip this time of year. I also ask that you keep a watch out for the questions I will post in the trip planning forum. Ill take any advice I can get and I think Ill probably get some of the best answers here on these forums. There are people on these boards that are much more experienced than myself and I love to learn new things. Especially when it has to do with Disney World ins and outs!

Ill keep you posted on the status of our trip/planning. Thank you for reading!!

GREAT!!! Ive heard so many people rave about this place. I have really only two concerns about the resort. my first is the transportation. If Im not mistaken the only way to MK is by sea. How was the boat ride? Is it covered? From the Poly to MK is just a skip and I didnt have to worry about the weather ever. I could see the ride being chilly in December. My other concern is the room. were you able to get a king size bed? What kind of room did you book if you dont mind me asking. We will be staying standard-Woods view. It was the cheapest option that offered a king bed. Im glad to hear that your trip went well!!!

No you can bus to MK as well. We didn't have issues with the boat; in fact we had pretty good luck about not having to wait too long. Just plan accordingly if you're headed to MK at park opening. The boats are covered, yes, though you have the option to sit out front where it is not. We had a Woods View room, with two queens. The bed we slept in was plenty big enough for us, and we just used the other one for all of our stuff!

Well congratulations on your upcoming nuptials and honeymoon! I love your spontaneity and it's helpful that you already have the time off. Carpe diem then!

My husband and I just honeymooned at the Wilderness Lodge a few weeks ago (our first stay there too) and it was truly, truly incredible. We couldn't have been happier. The lobby is just WOW and the room was beautiful with a courtyard view. We watched the rising sun every day. Roaring Forks has great options and I highly recommend Artist Point if your plan allows. Oh and we loved the very short boat ride to Magic Kingdom. Christmas time at The World is so magical!!!

Congrats again and enjoy!!!!!

We always go in summer. Recently, we have gone for the fourth of july. Three of the last four thanksgivings we have been to WDW. Last year was our first Christmas there. We stayed at the YC and will be staying there again. We love spending time in Epcot because of the storytellers around WS. The YC makes it an easy walk for us. There is so much to see and do at Christmas. Don't miss the Osbourne lights in HS, the parade in MK, and WS in Epcot with all of the storytellers. If you have some time, the resorts are decorated and well worth seeing!!! Best of luck on the wedding and have a great time. I hope you love WL. Its beautiful at Christmas.

Me and DH were there early November last year and did MVMCP. Decorations were incredible! I teared up while in MK at night just soaking it all in! It was chilly at night but during the day was comfortable. We had only 1 hot day. Enjoy your honeymoon! My next trip I want to stay at the WL! :)

We were at the WL in September. I would be very specific with them about what type of room you want and the location. If a king bed is first on your wish list, you should let them know that. During our first visit to The WL in 2011, we requested a king room overlooking the lobby. We had room 6071 and it was wonderful....king bed, unobstructed view of the pool. This year we made the same request and were given 6069....a room with one queen and bunks....not a big deal for us but not what I would want for my honeymoon. The WL is a lovely resort....the CM could not be more friendly and helpful. You can take a bus to any park or a boat to The MK. The boat on the right side of the marina will take you to The Contemporary Resort where you can take the monorail to the Poly of GF.
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage and have a Magical Honeymoon! :cat:

Friday December 20th

We plan on a small ceremony at the in-laws house for the nups. Roughly 7:30 a.m.
Our plane leaves at 9:20 and arrives in Orlando at 2:20.
We will use Magical Express from the airport to the WL
Hopefully we will arrive at the resort somewhere between 3:30-4

Now we looked at several different places to eat for dinner but nothing in the MK had anything available and we didn't really want to eat qs on our "wedding" night, so we looked into Artist Point and they had a couple of early dinner reservations open.

After a dinner at AP we will head to the MK for MVMCP. This will be the last night that it is offered as a ticketed event. We really wanted to be sure that if we attended the party that it was a hard ticket night because of the lighter crowds and of course the 360 degree fireworks!

I figure that we will hang out pretty late this night but maybe not. We may be exhausted and want to go to bed. LoL I think it will be a more relaxed night as opposed to a commando style touring. Im picturing meandering the shops on MS and walking on the pathway between Tomorrowland and Story Book Circus. Im not imagining myself on many attractions. Probably Pirates, Space Mountain, and maybe I can sneak some of the free hot cocoa onto the TTA:jawdrop:

I can't even begin to imagine the castle all lit up and the wreaths hung on MS. I know that they don't decorate too much throughout the park but the sight of that castle covered in lights is something that Ive dreamed about seeing for several years now. Im willing to bet that pictures don't do it justice. The thought of wandering around MK on my "wedding" night is just unbelievable. I absolutely cannot wait to head down and get this thing started with the wife!

Thats all for tonight! Ill share the plans for days 2-3 tomorrow. If you thought day one sounded busy……. you aint seen nothin yet! I hope your enjoying the read! Feel free to give your opinions on things Ill take anything into consideration. You guys are the best!

Ok Im finally back!! LoL I said that I would be back the next day to give details on days two and three and that was three weeks ago!!! So I apologize to anyone who was holding their breath for my next post. Things have been crazy lately so we are working out the fine details of the trip in very short time frames and in between bites at dinner. The fact that we will have a better opportunity to get around property in a rental car seems to ease our minds about getting from place to place in a timely manner.

So our second day is set to begin early. Like commando dad early. There are EMH at HS this morning so we will be taking advantage of the light wait times since we will not be able to pick fastpass+ ride times until we check in and link our APs. The plan is to hit Roaring Fork at WL before we head out. We will be taking Disney transportation to the park that morning. Does anyone know about how long that drive will be? How about the bus service at the lodge? Id like to hear what everyones experiences have been so post a reply when you finish reading this post!

Im sure we will head straight to TSMM and then trek back down Sunset but at some point there will be a stop at starring rolls. We will probably try and grab Beaches and cream for lunch because we will be picking our rental car up from the swan at some point this day. The plan is to check out all of the decorations at the crescent lake resorts. I have heard lots of good things about the decorations in this area so I can't wait to just stroll from resort to resort and soak up the tinsel. We have dinner reservations at Yachtsman Steakhouse at 5 so we will likely linger around these resorts until then. The Osbourn Spectacle of Dancing Lights is what we are really looking forward to this night. I was hoping for us to be there to see them turn on but with dinner being at 5 and the lights starting at 6 I doubt that we will make it. We will likely stay at the park until closing at 9.

Since we will have the car I was thinking that on our way back to the resort we could swing by the campground and check out some of the decorations that they have over there. On several different podcasts the campgrounds have been mentioned as nice holiday decorations to check out. 9 is relatively early for us so if we didn't get back to the resort until 10-10:30 we will be fine. Maybe stop by the Territory Lounge before we head to the room for the night.

Thank you for reading day two of my pre trip report!! I hope that this brings someone out there a little taste of the excitement that we have about our upcoming trip. If you have any experience with any of the things that Ive mentioned doing I would love to hear your thoughts! And when I say anything I mean anything. From renting a car at the swan, to eating at beaches, to touring the crescent lake resorts with or without Christmas lights, I would love to hear about them!! Anyways thanks again for reading, and I promise it won't be three weeks before I post again.;)

We only have 28 days until we start our lives together and head down to the happiest place on earth to start the journey! I CANT WAIT!!!
