Pre-Trip Let's Eat All of the Ice Cream!

Hello everyone, thanks for stopping by. Boy, am I excited for this next trip, it feels like it has been forever since the last time we went to WDW. It has only been a bit over a year, but that was a short trip and we only did Epcot and Disney Springs. The last full trip was in November of 2016, we did also sneak a very cold, rainy, day into Disneyland Paris, where most the things were closed, but cold, wet Disney is better than no Disney. It has been a long time since I did a trip report too. I found I was getting too distracted, and viewing too much of the trip through my camera, that I decided to skip trip reports that last few times. I am hoping to do one for this trip, because I really want to remember it well. Let's introduce you to the crew!

Who?
My wife Cara and myself. This is from the fall 2016 Dapper Day at Epcot. We have been to Disney World together 7 times since 2007, Disneyland 2 times, and 1 day at Disneyland Paris. We are big fans of Dapper Day, Epcot Food & Wine, and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. Sadly you used to be able to do all 3 of these things in one trip, but no longer.

Our 8 month old daughter, Siobhan. By the time the trip starts she will be 13 months old. We realize she will not be remembering this trip, and probably won't even get to enjoy most of what Disney has to offer. We are mostly taking the trip for ourselves, and to force this baby into adorable pictures.

When?
We will be leaving New York on Friday, October 19th after work. I'm hoping we can get on a 7:30 flight, but that would cause some rushing, and leaving work early. We will be staying until Sunday, October 28th, leaving early in the early afternoon, so at best we can have a nice breakfast at our resort.

Where?
We will be staying at a new resort for us this time. We have stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge twice, Boardwalk Inn 4 times, and Port Orleans Riverside once, we split the week that time between Boardwalk and Port Orleans. This time we will be staying at Wilderness Lodge. I have heard great things about Wilderness Lodge, and I love the aesthetic of it. We will miss walking to Epcot and Hollywood Studios, but I'm excited to try a new resort.

Why?
We actually weren't planning on going to Disney World this year, we were trying hard to do our first Disney Cruise. Well every time we thought we found a cruise that would work, one of our work places would reject the dates, lame. In the end it was just easier to go back to Disney World.

What?
Well I got a little too excited, and maybe jumped the gun on writing this trip report, there is still a lot of planning to do. But I'll give you what I got! We have a couple breakfasts planned, Garden Grill, and Whispering Springs, the latter I hear is no longer fun, which is a bummer since we've never been. I am holding the reservation for now just in case things go back to normal, if they don't we will change that one. Only one lunch reservation for now at Sanaa. Dinner I have made several, Ragland Road, La Hacienda de San Angel, Tusker House, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Morimoto Asia, Jiko, and California Grill. Trying to mix in some places we haven't been, and some we love. It's too early to make Fastpass plans, but, since Siobhan can't go on a lot of things, we are planning on doing fewer rides and more exploring. In our minds this means a lot of time at Animal Kingdom, World Showcase, and Disney Springs. We really want to take it easy, rush less, and just enjoy our time as a family, and not being at work. Of all the things we have to do, Pandora, I will make sure we each get to ride Flight of Passage at least once. We also will be attending Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, which has been a favorite activity in the past, but now we have to coordinate a costume for 3. Miniature golf is something we have discussed doing, but never have in the past, does anyone have an opinion of the Mini golf course at WDW? Finally, we have joked that instead of going on rides that we will just hit up every major ice cream stop in WDW. We really don't have much of a list yet. I know we need to get at least one Ice cream bar and Ice cream sandwich, a dole whip, a giant sundae at beaches and cream, and ample hills. So if any of you out there in forum land can help us complete this list, maybe we can actually eat all the ice cream.

Thank you for reading my pre-trip report! I know I can't wait for this trip, and I really hope to make the actual trip report happen this time.

Thank you! We think she is quite adorable too.

Any advice for first time Wilderness Lodge guests?
I love to sit in the lobby and people watch! The lobby is enormous, yet it feels very cozy to me. I always try to take a few minutes to just sit and take in my surroundings!
We enjoy watching the geyser erupt. I haven’t been back since the addition of the cabin villas but I think the geyser is still there.
We’ve always enjoyed Roaring Fork, the QS restaurant. It is sometimes slow but we’ve always enjoyed our meals. My favorite treat from there is the Magic Cookie Bar-yummy!
The new Geyser Point Bar & Grill look like a place I’d love, but I haven’t stayed at WL since it opened.
We typically request a “woods view” room and for 3 of our trips we could stand on our balcony and see the monorail leaving the Contemporary and also watch the fireworks from MK.
On arrival night, we always watch the Electrical Boat Pageant from the beach. Not sure if you can still do that.
I love the walk to the boat dock. You can take a boat to MK or Ft. Wilderness.
Everyone has a resort that feels like home and for us it is WL. We are trying a new resort this summer, but I am hoping to make a stop at WL for a Magic Cookie Bar and a view of the lobby.
Enjoy! Looking forward to hearing how you like it!

OH my, She is just precious!! I can't wait to hear more about your trip. WL looks gorgeous! I took my Daughter on her first trip at 15 months. She didn't need to remember, we do!!! She's been 4x since them (she's almost 4). She's a Disney kid !
