Let's Discuss Stupid and Pointless TV Commercials!

A good example is Charmain's toilet paper commercial. "Charmain Ultra, Less is More!" But, by elimination, "Charmain Ultra, More is Even More!" And isn't everyone talking about using a LITTLE toilet paper so you don't clog up the toilet?

Anyone else want to discuss stupid commercials?

Two words: Red Bull

How I despise each and every one of their commercials. It's like they got their uncle's, best friend's cousin to do their advertising so they wouldn't have to pay for it.

At least they're honest. "It gives you wings." Drink two of those, and you're FLYING.

I hated those old Geico commercials, where it would be some animated dude get crushed by a vending machine or something, and then they'd tell you to use Geico.

As the opposite of that, I loved the old Aflac commercials. I forgot their old slogan, but it was so much better than "Ask about it at work." Does anyone remember the old slogan for Aflac?

Anyway, I especially liked the one where the people were on the roller coaster with the Aflac duck.

I can't stand the one for Skittles gum that always plays in movie theaters.. where the men are chewing on the wood...

With TiVo, I usually fast forward through commericals.. So, I don't have too much to contribute to this topic..

I have Tivo with DirecTV, but I watch more Live TV than recordings (the only things I really record are theme park specials I haven't seen, Survivor, and World Poker Tour. But I'm not watching anymore WPT until the new season airs. I hate the reruns. I used to record World Series of Poker, but I got so fed up with the gay announcers (Norman Chad...shut the **** up, your jokes are NOT funny at all) that I swore off of it. I never got to see the final table of the WSOP, but I heard that when Greg Raymer won, he put his hands up, and everyone died from the smell.)

I can't stand ESPN at all. All their shows are crap besides Little League World Series. SportsCenter has gotten very boring, and now the audio comes out about 2 seconds before the video. Their commercials are even worse. I HATE those Miller High Life commercials...all Miller Beer sucks, anyway.

I hate those AOL commercials (Then again, I hate everything AOL). I hate the oen where they go "There are some members here that can improve the internet."
"Which ones?"
"Looks like... all of them."

But AOL got owned by Net Zero. They got the same exact people in their commercial from the AOL one. They're commercial says: "Hi, we used to be AOL members, but we swicthed to Net Zero." Then the girls says,
"Some members just switched to Net Zero.
"Oh, which ones?"
"Looks like... all of them..."

GAH!! I hate those too! Especially the spray on types where they wipe off a whole gob of hair off of a guy's chest, then turn the cloth over to show the clump of hair. :hurl:

We used to have this commercial back in Buffalo that drove me bonkers! This guy Billy Fuccillo and his stupid car dealership, he had this slogan and he'd be like "It's HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE" and the way he said it drove people freakin insane. I took a Media Communications Course, and 18 out of the 22 people in the class said they HATED the commercial. Plus it got really old.


On a lighter and more positive note, the commerical down here that makes me crack up the most is the *of course* Appliance Direct Commercials....I LOVE APPLIANCES!!!!! If you didn't pay direct...you paid too much! *smacks truck*

I watched those one day and suddenly realized that it was an effective brainwashing tool. I had the constant "Appliance Direct... I LOVE APPLIANCES!! Appliance Direct.... Here's three more locations...." going through my head.

I just got reminded of another commerical that I hate. So, on DirecTV, I was scanning through the local channels, and I ended up on ABC (I think). So, I see this gay commerical pop up. There's a cow, and he's chewing on trees, and then this guy comes and yells at the cow for wasting out trees. Then it says, "PROTECT OUR ENVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIROMENT!" Really, really messed up.

"How can a 50 year old grandomother look this good?....BOW-FLEX"

You gotta admit though, if she really is a 50 year old grandmother, she does look good...

Sometimes stupid and pointless TV commercials are the most memorable. Quizno's rats (shudder).
In spite of this, my favourite commercial is from down in Florida, where I saw it, appropriately enough, on a WL T.V. for the first time. (see sig)
