We all know about character and film references in certain rides and shows (like Ariel in Peter Pan's Flight and Mr. Toad in the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh) but I wanted to know if anybody knew little known character refrences in parks. For example the Emporium states that its owner is Oshum Poppam a refrence to the character Burl Ives played in "Summer Magic". Anybody know any others?

Ariel is in Peter Pan's Flight? I'll have to check next time I go.

There is the Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea carving in Pooh's Playful Spot in Magic Kingdom.

Years ago, the Mermaid Lagoon scene used to feature the Mermaids topless. This eventually became an issue, as parents would complain and whatnot, so the Imagineers went back and painted seashells on 'em. They repainted one of the Mermaid's hair red, and gave her purple seashells: Ariel.

Hmmm...

Disneyland once had a quick service stand named "Gurgi's Crunchies and Munchies," for Gurgi from the Black Cauldron. I can't think of anything in WDW's MK, with the exception of the Emporium owner (and you already mentioned this).

EDIT: Maybe it was "Munchies and Crunchies." Whatever. :)

Are you sure they were topless? Wasn't their hair covering them though?

The mermaids in the movies have tops.:veryconfu

I did an other post on this site titled "old Snow White" which shows pictures of the old mermaids.

Thanks jeffcot for the info on the train station. Pollyanna, Son of Flubber, those are the kind of movie refrences I like! :D

IMO The Black Cauldron is the best Disney animated film ever :sohappy: (after Sleeping Beauty and the Great Mouse Detective)

The Black Cauldron, there's one I haven't seen in a while...

There is the Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea carving in Pooh's Playful Spot in Magic Kingdom.
Where is this? I've wandered through a couple of times and can't find it!

In the Great Movie Ride in the Western scene, on the right hand wall near Clint Eastwood, there is a sign on the storefront saying Ransom Stoddard. Ransom Stoddard is a character played by Jimmy Stewart in "The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance", co-starring John Wayne.

My screen name is a little known character reference from a Disney movie. Does that count?

Yeah! From Tower of Terror!

In Disneyland, Fess Parker (star of Davy Crockett T.V. and movies) has his own store front window in Frontierland that reads "Davy Crockett, Coonskin Cap Supply Co., Fess Parker Proprietor."

Also, in the Indiana Jones Adventure in Disneyland, one of the messages in the cryptic hieroglyphic language when translated says "Choose wisely," a subtle nod to the line spoken in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Also, I noticed when I had to watch Hamlet for a school assingnment, the ghost of the Father in the Laurence Olivier version looks a lot like the decapitated knight in the graveyard scene in the Haunted Mansion.

I wonder if the Imagineers did that purposely to reference that film. Hmm.... :)

For any true Kevin Smith fan, you've seen "Clerks: The Animated Series". In said show, in the pilot, Dante and Randal ride a doombuggy and encounter a "ghost host" in the shape of Leonardo Leonardo. For those who haven't seen it, it was a great, overlooked show. It can be enjoyed by Clerks fans and newbies.
