Legoland is coming - Threat to WDW?

We are annual passholders to the Legoland in CA (I live 5 minutes away from it) and I don't think this is a threat to WDW at all. Legoland is a 1 day (and very expensive) kiddie-park. Here in California it costs $80A/$68C per ticket, plus $14 to park. Attractions are aimed at kids ages 3-8. Though it's "family-friendly" it doesn't have anything for teenagers, or adults without young children.

That IS expensive for what they're offering. I don't see it being a huge threat to WDW, but rather more of a spur for TDO to improve its own product, as any good competition should.....

The location is bad but I'd be surprised if it doesn't hurt Disney world just a little bit. At the same time though, the FL refurb will be done close thereafter so that should be a big enough draw to combat it.

With the timing of the opening (competing with the new FL and Potterland) and the location, this seems like it may be destined to fail. I'm VERY surprised this wasn't built on the land just south of Universal. A location next to Uni would've guaranteed them more nights per stay at the resort and would've made it a much more attractive family destination.

I actually received a very long survey 7 months ago asking exactly what I thought of the idea of putting a Legoland in Cypress Gardens. I said that it was a horrible idea, and they ought to look into a place such as Myrtle Beach where there'd be plenty of market, but virtually no competition. I'm having a hard time visualizing this park being a success unless it gets a really huge local following.

I believe most of the success at Legoland California is due to the huge amount of Japanese tourists that come out here over the summer, and due to its location about halfway between Disney and San Diego.

No. Disney and Legoland do nit compete. 2 different beasts.

I will be adding a stop on my next trip though!:D

It isn't a threat to WDW of course. But it is a threat to the MK's numbers. I really believe the FLE was a response to Legoland rumors at least as much as TWWoHP.

Busch Gardens will begin to push Animal Kingdom too. Add IoA, Uni Studios, Sea World etc to the mix and a theme park war seems inevitable.

Merlin is investing "hundreds of millions". Make no mistake, they aim to compete with Disney as equals in central Florida. :sohappy:

It may be a slim threat!

I personally, want to go there...It has been my dream since I started playing with Lego's to go to a Legoland!:lookaroun:lookaroun

Cali has one of those...I wonder why Florida never marketed one? Would Disney be against it seeing that they seem to be more competitive here?

Disney is against everything that might benefit anyone other than themselves. Competitive would be an understatement. They even shot down Florida's much needed rail projects several times because they didn't want it going to I-Drive (Universal, SeaWorld.) :brick:
