I will be at WDW next week for a week. Yeah! I was thinking about taking my ds8 and ds4 to the new Lego Land park for a day. Any suggestions? I will be driving to LL. Time? Route? I never leave disney proper when I visit WDW (try to immerse myself as much as possible) but my ds8 loves legos and I thought he would enjoy. Thanks all!

Thanks. Have you been there? Thoughts? Suggestions? Is this an all day park or how much time on average to cover park?

Every trip report that I have seen for Legoland said it was a great place to bring the kids.. If you dont have kids ..?? I don't know. They do have a couple of coasters

I know a few AFOLs (Adult Fans Of LEGO) who visited the park at its opening and were severely bored and disappointed. Everything at Legoland is geared towards small children, except of course for the cost. $75 is a bit ridiculous for a half-day, half-completed park that has very little to offer adults.

The park is actually quite small and there is little surprise in most of the attractions, as one can see the whole thing as you walk past. There is also no real common connection. At times things are just built out of Legos. Other times you are the size of a minifig. If you are trying to do everything, it could take a full "day" (the park is not open late) as there are a few 4D movies shown in the 4D theater and the water ski show (which has an odd, incoherent storyline that further confuses the issues of theme). Part of the Cyprus Gardens are still accessible to the public and have pretty much been left as is, including an alligator warning sign that still bears the Cyprus Gardens Adventure Park logo. Be aware that the standard procedure right now is for the park to be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Keep an eye on the weather, as almost everything is outdoors. Also, while it may seem like a deal, the all you can eat pizza, pasta and salad buffet should just be avoided, the food is out right gross.

As stated, the price right now is a bit steep. It may be worth it a bit more when the waterpark [re]opens, if it is included in general admission. If you are a member of AAA you can purchase discount tickets ($19.00 off for adults) at the Winter Haven AAA office which is not too far out of the way.

I would almost suggest waiting for the Legoland Discovery Center in Atlanta to open next year. It's about twice the driving time as compared to Walt Disney World to Legoland Florida, but the admission is likely going to be much less. The one in Chicago looks to have plenty of offerings but only costs as little as $10 online or $20/adult and $15/child if you walk up and purchase your tickets.

There's a Legoland in Florida. That's the one being discussed.

I was Commenting on the post before mine suggesting to opt for a new Lego place in Atlanta over the new FL park. Atlanta is a poor option unless you want to waste 2 days of travel.

The Legoland in FL is great for small kids. I took my son there last weekend & he loved it. We got discount tickets for $38 ea. In my opinion it's not worth full price yet until they expand more. If you can get in cheaper then go for it.

We took the kids, ages 5 and 7, in early November. It took exactly 45 minutes to drive from the Beach Club to the park. We arrived at 10:00 AM and while we LOVED it, we were ready to leave at around 1:30 (we felt like we had seen what we wanted to and it was pretty hot out so we wanted to get back for a swim before dinner). The park was a lot of fun - it was perfectly geared towards the kids age levels. There were 4 kid sized coasters: one combo dark ride/barnstormer type, one wooden, one suspended and one mousetrap style. There was also a "driving school" where they drive electric cars on a road style coarse complete with traffic lights (no track) and a "boating school" where they are the driver of their own boat. My son's favorite ride was one similar to Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin but you are shooting at giant lego minifigs (visually very cool!). There were a bunch more rides for younger kids that we skipped. We ordered our tickets online beforehand - there is a Pepsi discount code that gets you a free child ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket (we did 2 transactions to get 2 free child tickets). Go here:

https://secure4.gatewayticketing.com/LegolandFlorida/Content.aspx?Kind=LandingPage

and use code 11090601. Tickets expire 5/31/2012.

For us it was well worth the time and price for the excursion. Hope this helps!

Unless it happens to be very crowded when you are there, you can easily do the whole park in a day (which is truly a day because they close early).

For those with slightly older kids, don't bother. Lego land is really aimed at the kids 10 and under. As they age above 10 they will quickly see it as a very bad place to be... Teens being taken along with the family would really be bored. So take note if you have teens in the family too... the place is not good for any but the youngest.

Atlanta is almost a 7.5 hr drive from Orlando

The original poster has a listed location of Greenville, SC. I was not suggesting going up to Atlanta from Orlando, but possibly waiting and taking a day trip from Greenville.

I've been looking into that place...am I wrong, but are there no real dark rides? That's the only reason I'd ever go - I love dark rides. Even if they just had one I"d probably make the trip.

To get to Legoland from the WDW/Orlando area, just take I-4 west until the Highway 27 exit. Take 27 south through Haines City and Lake Hamilton and Dundee until you get to Cypress Gardens Blvd (SR 540). Hang a right and another 4 or 5 miles and you'll be at Legoland's front gate. Depending on your starting location and traffic, it should take no more than 30-45 minutes to reach the park. I would definitely advise getting there by park opening as it's only open from 10-5 and the park tickets are just a shade under Disney prices.

My two oldest (9 years and 7 years) have already been on school field trips to Legoland and their respones were both muted, at best. My son, who is obsessed with all-things Lego told me, "Legoland was alright, but no Disney World."

There is a fun little interactive (shooting) dark ride, Lost Kingdom Adventure, built by Sally Corp.

There's also a combination semi-dark ride/coaster called Dragon Challenge (I think) - it's like having the barnstormer tacked onto the end of a dark ride.
