Legends of A DTD Boat Driver

So the family and I just returned from another stay at WDW last night. Our first night there (stayed at POR) we decided to take the boats to DTD. The captain of the boat was a really nice guy who joked around with us quite a bit. However, about halfway into the trip... the rumours started to fly!

First topic was the addition of a boat dock over at Pleasure Island in order for them to service Marketplace and PI.

Second topic was his "scoop" about the Laugh Floor Comedy Club that was coming to Tomorrowland. Most of the guests on the boat had not heard this before, so the "oohs and aahs" all started. And I thought, "hey... this guy kinda knows what he is talking about, maybe he will provide some cool info."

Third topic was that Disney Quest was closing very soon, to be replaced with an ESPN Zone. So at this point we were skating dangerously close to the edge of the rumour cliff. But then I thought, "well... I have heard this rumour before, and DQ has struggled a bit... so who knows."

He then talked about Millionare closing, and I thought "OK, maybe he will give a bit of info about the new attraction coming there." And then it started. We just leaped right off of that edge of the cliff straight out into the rumour abyss. He went on to talk about how a high-speed roller coaster was taking the place of Millionaire, comparable to Rock N Roller Coaster.

Things started getting downright zany after that. Magic Kingdom was supposedly getting a brand new mountain, set to debut in 2008. And then the unthinkable topic was uttered... yes... the FIFTH GATE!!!!! Apparently this 5th theme park is set to "be geared towards adults, full of coasters like that other park". At this point I pretty much tuned him out. I had heard about CMs spreading rumours before, but I never knew it was this bad. Some of those poor kids on that boat were cheering about coming back to WDW in a couple of years to visit a 5th park.

Hope you had some boots on that boat trip:lol: .

Although it would be nice if at least the 5th park were true.

I have several CM friends who have said this to happen in late 07....if the rumor for years is really going to happen after all this time. *shrug* Though if I recall, the ESPN Zone in CA is extreamly large and does very well. So who knows if this will be its East Coast version.

Yeah you didnt hear?

They are moving Everest over to Magic Kingdom and building a long walkway from there to the 5th gate which actually will be run by Six Flags.

Hey - I had that boat driver a couple of weeks ago!

Just goes to show you you can't trust everything you hear. They are about as interested in good scoops as you are.

Sounds like the boat driver trained at Bus Driver Academy!

Nemo14 just so you know there are bus drivers that read some of this stuff. The drivers only talk about what they are told by other CM's. And soon the drivers wont be talking at all to the guests because it will all be automated. Plus watercraft goes has there own training program were they learn more about the parks and company.

Sorry - didn't mean to offend you. We've just had a lot of similar stories here about bus drivers. For the record, my DH plans to be a Disney bus driver when he retires.

Raging Spirits built around a mountain instead of a temple... possible...

If not, they could always put in in the 5th gate

I may have linked the wrong thread. I could have sworn I saw something about a volcano in Adventureland and how it would be viewed from the Poly....

No, the fifth gate is the mountain. It will house many roller coaster that will be surrounding this huge Mickey eared mountain. Also the raging spirits being talked about for MK is actually that they are now going to allow alchoholic beverages into the park and they are going to call it raging spirits.

Oh man I need some sleep.

The DTD boat drivers some times drive me crazy! Especially when you are tired at night, and they drive real slow so they can share all their "knowledge" about Disney. I have heard the history of Sasagula River, the story of Tiger Woods losing his two balls in the river when he was five, and all the new and old rumors about what is coming to Disney...and so on and so forth....

It isn't DTD boat drivers who do it, it is also Friendship boat drivers ( the rides between MGM and Epcot and all the resorts in the area) and WDW bus drivers. Sometimes the stories are quite humorous though, but they can get annoying after a while. :)

The bad thing about this is, he probably heard these rumours from his manager and really believes them to be true. :(
