Sounds like Magic Mountain peaked in the early 2000s
Magic Mountain peaked for me in the late 70's when Revolution opened. It was still a relatively uncrowded, beautiful park with 3 fun coasters, two great flumes, The Galaxy Wheel, El Bumpo, two skyways, a monorail, an Autopia ripoff and a hefty collection of flat rides (Spin Out!!!). It was actually a relaxing place to be. And there were no ads for credit cards or hair products. The longest wait was maybe a half hour for Revolution (running three trains!) They hired character actors (including Ron "Dreamfinder" Schneider) to portray hermits and gold miners.
(EDIT) ...and the Sky Tower actually worked.

The Log Jammer's drippy basement queue was awful even back then, though. :D

I don't know about that. They've been doing alot of cleanup, fixes and additions in the last five years. A lot of the trees were overgrown but they really should have put some funds toward landscaping.

I was just making a guess with the info I have at hand since I haven’t been in a few years. By the early 2000s most of the best roller coasters had already been built no? With maybe exception to Tatsu and X2? So that coupled with the trees still being around....

In the 2000s they had a lot of teardowns (Deja Vu), concentration of kid coasters (Mr. Six coaster) and some rethemes (X becomes X2). We did get Scream, Terminator Salvation (Apocalypse) and Green Lantern as new rides. More recently, we got Twisted Colossus, New Revolution, Justice League and Crazanity / Bumper Cars rebuild. Next year is West Coast Racers. So it's been pretty steady for the last few years. There just isn't a lot of landscaping happening.

Not a lot of non-coaster activity, either. But that's what 6 Flags wants this park to be: The complete opposite of DLR.

Another queue that I hate is the Simpsons ride queue. First you stand outside watching cartoons in at least two lines. Then you are inside looking at flats and more cartoons. Then your in a little room with strangers. Too many starts and stops.
I kinda liked the simpsons queue, then again, I've always used universal's fastpass, so maybe that's why.
