I'm confused...are you saying you expect the same thing to happen to the Timekeeper at WDW?

No, there was a rumor the Le Vis was going to be going seasonal like Time Keeper.
The rumor for Timekeeper is that it will be going soon as well. Probably when Stitch opens. There a thread about that on the News & Rumor board.
Hope that helps.

That's a huge shame. I love the atmosphere there, everything is so victorian and it is A vision of the future, not accurate (people sent to the moon in cannons) but feeds into the whimsy of Disney. I'll always have fon memories of listening to Le Visionarium in portruguese when i couldnt make the speaker thing work *sob*

Well it seems the Jules Verne theme is dieing. What will the theming of Space Mountain be when it reopens as Mission 2?
Space Mountain will look the same but now has a bright colorfull paint job. Not the classic copper look. The cannon will remain. In side the ride will change a lot. Apparently it will be a ride into a super nova with some sort of heat effect. No more connon shot to the moon.
And the new logo stinks.
Here's the original story from DLP Guidebook:
You think the repainting of the Space Mountain's exterior is exciting news? You were blown away when you saw how bright the colors shine currently tested on the mountain? Think again and get ride for even more exciting news! The last weeks DLP.info was bussy trying to confirm the latest rumours swirling around the Space Mountain project and finally was able to find several inside sources who independently gave us the same or at least similar story. According to these sources Space Mountain is supposed to drop the current "From the Earth to the Moon" theme in time for its 10th anniversary next year replacing it with the non-Jules-Verne-connected SUPER NOVA theme.
Super Nova theme? Yep, that is how it has been dubbed currently by Imagineering. Certainly all plans are still in development as work for the themeing change does not have to start till later this year, but the current version envisions the guests to board the trains to get shot into space for a enjoyable space sightseeing tour, unfortunately something goes horrible wrong (doesn't it always in a good thrill ride?) when the train enters the canon, an alarm is sounded and the train starts to glide back as the system in the canon can't load it appropriately. Unfortunately it is too late to abort the launch sequence and so the train is shot from further down the canon than originally planned, thus it gets too fast and overshoots its planned flight orbit ... bringing it too close to a sun that is to turn into a super nova. In other words: getting it too near to a sun that is going to explode. When it turns into that super nova guests are supposed to feel the heat of the explosion, as their train / rocket races through space trying to stay ahead of the sun's remnants shooting out from the super nova - certainly making it safely back to the earth in the end. The ride will still use the same track as the current version but will feature new special effects supposed to make the experience even more exiting. Rumors have it that the Imagineers might use flat screens to show some of the super nova explosion elements and make them chase the trains / rockets. But again these are all preliminary plans which will certainly see some changes at least in the details before 2005.

That, at least from that description, sounds very cool.

Sadly, I have not been to either DisneyLand or DLP.

One day...

So, I now want to know, if Jules Verne is leaving Discoveryland and Disney has given up on the real future concept, what will come? The Sci-fi of today?

I hate this. It looks like the New Tomorrowland in WDW and Discoveryland in DLP is slowing going away. Once Timekeeper closes in Florida, the two big additions will be gone. And Le Visionarium was always a big draw in Paris (from what I read). I guess not everything good can last.

I'm going to cry. The Earth to the Moon theme is fantastic. A true original. I love the soundtrack and all. In fact, I'm saving up for a trip to DLP next summer just to ride Space Mountain....now I have to ride this new "thing". You're starting to lose me, Disney. :(

I'm not sure if they will try to continue the Verne theme or not.
Buzz will still be in a "Verne looking" building. Space Mountain will still have the cannon. Just the rides inside will have nothing to do with the theme.
Hey there's still Mysterious Island at Disney Sea (and hopefully one day at Animal Kingdom) for us 20K fans.

As sad as it is, things need to progress (didn't that carousel teach you anything?). If nothing ever changed, we'd complain. When things change, we complain. It's a lose lose situation until you see the final thing. Just go with the flow.

I understand what you are saying Doc, while change is good and parks need new attractions to draw customers (DLP being a prime example of this) I don't see why a new attraction could not match the existing theme of Discoveryland.
Why not add JTTCOTE or 20K instead of ToT & Buzz (a cheap scaled down version of ToT & Buzz from what I've read)?

Vestanden. I completely agree, Disney are narrowig their horizons by regurgitating and cloning rides. New rides with no real source are often the best. e.g. Alien Encounter und so weiter.

I'm also against the whole attraction clone thing. BUT, how cool would DinseySea's Mount Prometheus be in Discoveryland right about where the Spreedway is?

Here is something interesting. I am working on my newest version of Paradise Disney and I am doing something not done in a while by Disney (besides in TDS). I am trying to convey a strong central theme in the park to establish a much better atmosphere. I am also staying away from liscences, properties, and characters. From this, I have actually managed to create stories and ideas of original attractions. Some of the clones originally planned have evolved into new attractions that probably would become Disney classics if actually built.

I am thinking, over the years I always thought of new rides but it wasn't until I decided to make a continuous story in a park that original ideas started to appear. I think, if something this simple can be done by me, then maybe it will start happening at Disney.

I would like to see Mount Prometheous in Animal Kingdom though. (if anything, I want autopia or something similar to replace the speedway). I am also glad the Jules Verne theming is over, mainly for the idea of Tommorowland to return to the future. (I would actually like a post-modern mocking view of the future like in Futurama).

I have not seen your Paradise Disney yet (is it in the Imagineering section?) but I will check it out.
So for now I'm just talking out of my "backend".
Creating attractions with no characters? That's got to be one big challenge! I look forward too seeing your ideas.
I have a question for you. What about your version of Fantasyland? Isn't that what people go there for? To see the established characters?
Again I have not seen it so I have no idea what you have come up with.

Side note: I love Verne. I hope DAK does get Prometheus, and I'm sad to see it leave DL at DLP.

There are still Disney character based rides. Fantasyland is like a standard fantasyland. It's just that I am trying to avoid the spreading to other areas. Splash Mountain will also exist but it will all be limited.

And my current incarnation of Paradise Disney is not in the Imagineering section, I am currently drawing a map plan and that wont be done for at least a month.
