Disney is not "giving away" anything. The resort rack rates are fictional and the ticket prices have many discounts as well. It's very much like the sticker price on a car. Some people pay the sticker price but many buyers get significant discounts. The FTP is really only a good discount for a one time or first time visitor. Regular WDW guests get better deals. As for Disney accounting, they are very creative. WDW needs all the visitors it can get right now!
