LAX->DLR route choice based on local's experience?

So - from LAX to Anaheim there are 2 basic routes. Either I-105, dodge onto Downey and then back onto I-5 or the longer route of I-405 through Garden Grove then up I-5 to the resort.

We're arriving mid-morning on a Tuesday. Is one route going to be better, traffic-wise, than the other?

Last time we did 405 and it was busy but wasn't bad. 105 seems much shorter but I really don't want to get stuck with a zillion of my closest friends on the wrong road.

Any input from those in the know appreciated.

Do you have a phone with internet access? While I am on the road or before I hit the road, I check sigalert.com.
I have changed my route many times due to the info on that site. It will have a map with the current speeds of the freeways. Avoid the red roads and aim for the green ones.

I always take the 405 when I go to LAX. I've never had to deal with horrible traffic there unless I was on the road during evening rush hour. Usually it's a 30-40 minute drive. Like Mukta said, check some traffic sites to see what's currently clear or backed up.

KNX Radio 1070 AM is your friend. Frequent traffic updates every hour. You just never know what will happen on the So. Cal. freeway system.
