Latest Disneyland trip gave me a surprise.

Funny how it works, right? Kids that I'm familiar with, like my nieces and nephews, I love, but those little terrors running around screaming their heads off at the DLH pool are the absolute worst. lol
And to make matters worse their parents are either not paying any attention to them or think everything they do is the absolute cutest thing imaginable so they don't keep the kids from getting too crazy or from bothering everyone else.

I think it was a mice age rumor. I'm not 100% sure though.
I've never read that on Miceage, and I've been reading them since the late 1990's.

I've never heard that rumor in general anywhere, actually. Maybe it was just a comment on a message board somewhere?

I could be wrong but for some reason I remember the rumor carrying a little more weight than a message board rumor from a random person.

This was recent. Sometime in the last year to year and a half ago

You had to ruin it by bringing the Fabulous Disney Babe into it, huh?:D

Michelle Smith, recently re-invented as Shelly Valladolid, is one of the reasons why I never returned after my one and only visit to the "Noon Meet" on Sunday in the Hub back in 1998-ish during the alt.disney.disneyland days. She is the same today as she was then, repeating Al Lutz's old rumors as her own and dishing up non-scoops she gets from custodians and bartenders her ex-husband Jim Hill emails with from his cabin in New Hampshire. She disappeared for a decade and reportedly got involved in the K-Pop subculture (why not?) but upon her return to Disneyland rumor world she apparently hasn't changed.

Just because someone can type and has a home Internet connection does not make them a good source for Disneyland rumors. This isn't a dig on you mickEblu, you likely had no idea who that was, but I would trust the 19 year old selling churros in Frontierland to tell me where the next DVC property is going more than I would trust Shelly.

As for the Paradise Pier, it's obviously an expansion plot long term. But I think with Star Wars and Marvel and the new parking structure and rumored remodel of Downtown Disney, I doubt anything will happen there in the next five years.

Exactly. Stay in a WDW resort hotel (value or moderate) and you'll get prices significantly lower than PP and with much better Disney themeing and probably a better overall experience. Granted, WDW has far more rooms available that are on Disney property so they can afford to provide a wide range of prices. PP pier would at best be a moderate at WDW so it's pretty clear they are robbing the bank when you compare.

There's just no debating the fact that you can't compare Disneyworld resorts to Disneyland resorts when it comes to value. You just can't. Disneyland's tremendous lack of space leads to more demand with less supply and you have raised rates. So let's try not to involve that. If we're talking STRICTLY Disneyland-

I was trying to find a way to refute your points, but I can't. In the end it just breaks down to wether you're willing to pay more for a couple of tangible things. Staying in the Disney bubble, The perks that a Disneyland hotel provides (extra magic hour and such) and location. To me, it's worth it, and the free markets tend to agree with me seeing as they are able to fill their rooms. Besides, at this point I'm okay with admitting to myself that I prefer Disneyland to it's East coast counterpart highly. Whew, that felt good to get off my chest.

But really, to each their own, that's the wonderful thing. There's options for everyone when it comes to a Disney vacation.

Hey, I have it on good authority that Disneyland will be building an expansion on the moon!

As a local and long time Disneylander (yes, I prefer it over WDW as well though I love both), there really isn't much of a need to stay at a local hotel. The times we have, it's been a special treat for the girls in the case of the DL hotel, my 40th bday. If we did decide to do a multi-day stay in Anaheim, it would very likely not be a DL hotel even though I can get a CM discount from a friend. I'm at a point in life where I'm not willing to spend that amount of money unless it's on a tropical beach : ) The Disney bubble here just doesn't feel the same to me, maybe because I worked in Anaheim for 14 years and/or have been to the resort more times than I can count in the last 45 years.

But in the end, for those that have the means and desire to stay at the DL hotels, and there are plenty of folks out there, go for it and enjoy it.

The best thing about The Grand Californian is its wonderful use as a resting place where you can have a drink, sink into a huge comfy chair and listen to relaxing, live piano music. And you don't have to have a room there to enjoy that. :)

At least once a trip I get an ice cream at Haagen Daas and enjoy it in the Grand's lobby.

Lol wow I had no idea that she had such a bad reputation. Anyway, I know how the internet works and I never said that she was a credible source. As someone who doesn't know anything about her I gave her some credibility through association. My question is why would Micechat allow her to have her own article with a rumors section on the same site that Puts out the MiceAge articles that seem to be considered pretty credible by most folks.

Ya I don't think the PPH demo is coming anytime soon but I think it is coming. The PPH and the Simba lot make up a good piece of land where they can add a nice resort up to Disney standards.
