Late Night Meltdown at Casey's Corner

This may have been logical and effective for the general public of 30-something years ago.
2018, not so much. Nowadays it only gives many folks reason to create future tantrums.

Police and Security can get you this same result as quickly as unnecessary reward for unnecessary behavior. It is unlikely that anyone among the sane / decent crowds who witnessed the commotion would be the least bit upset or offended seeing the rowdy individuals getting tossed. If anything, it shows them Disney does care and does have principles, rather than is a place which bows down to the most uncivilized among us.

We teach small children that screaming, anger, and tantrums don't get them what they want. It's time we start doing the same to adults.

I have seen the crowds applaud this before when security escorts the offending parties out the gate.

Reading this objectively, I agree with everything said... HOWEVER, this could have been avoided by intelligent operations.... When doing a job, it is important to BE AWARE of your surroundings. If you stand at your counter and do you job taking orders and serving trays of food to those who ordered it, then you would also NOTICE that there were people standing a the "closed line" and at the counter where no orders were going to be taken... A simple acknowledgment of the Guests standing in a closed line would have been the right way to handle the counter. It is clear that the Cast Members ignored the Guests at the counter and NO ONE likes to be ignored. Yes, there was no need to get crazy angry, however, I would be angry if I was standing in a line which was closed and no one at the counter had the decency to say anything just letting me stand there. The bottom line is that common sense should take over and people should be aware of things going on around them. I was a Cast Member and Controlled Main Street for several years... Many times I would see people start sitting down on the street curb waiting for a Parade which was not scheduled for that night... Others would see them waiting and start sitting down waiting for the parade too... Would it be so hard to stop by and speak with the Guests and inform them that there was not going to be a Parade?? Then there were Guests who would sit 1 hour ahead for a Parade in an area which Cast Members Knew was going to be roped off and they could not remain there when the ropes where in place... Would it be so hard to tell the Guests about the non viewing area when they were seen waiting there?? I always explained to people, while most other Cast Members just walked by and almost enjoyed seeing the Guests sitting there knowing that after all that waiting they would be told to move. It is a simply matter of Courtesy, and being multi-faceted enough to be aware of things going on around you... Deductive reasoning to know that Guests are standing there for a reason, and common sense which seems lacking in the world today.

Well, OP said that the lines were out the door, so my guess is that the CMs were so busy that a guest standing at a closed line might have been out of sight as the CM might have been too focused on the guest or guests they were already helping. Honestly, if the guests standing in line weren't getting helped, they could have kindly asked for it instead of standing there waiting on someone to wait on them.

No matter how long the line is, only the front of the line is at the counter where the Cast Members are serving the Guests... A Closed line is feet away from the Open line at the counter, and if people are standing at the closed line it is certainly plainly visible and should not be ignored.

That's a good point. Not sure why I was thinking those counters were a few feet away from one another...

Acknowledgement is like rule number one for working retail, regardless of the industry. Sure hope the World doesn't start to lose its overall customer values (unfortunately which I am sure many have seen changes over the years in that I don't doubt)
