Late check-out?

Is there such a thing available? On our departure day, my friend and I are scheduled to fly out late in the evening (8-9 p.m.) and were wondering what might be possible. I know we can leave our bags at the hotel, but we were thinking of some water park or pool time that day and would love to have a room that we can come back to shower and change.

Yep you can request it on your day of departure at the front desk. I never have much luck with it though, but have occasionally had a few hours extension,

Worth asking, but don't rely on it.

Thanks! The current plan is to be at the MK for breakfast on our check-out morning, but will probably wind up playing the rest of the day "by ear" anyway. But it's good to know that it might be possible.

We've gotten it every time we've asked so far.

When we fly up, our flight home is also late - the Magic Express comes to get us around 6PM for I think a 9:30PM-ish flight. So the later we can stay in the hotel in the morning, the better, before being "stranded" all day.

I found out you don't ask at the front desk. You need to call Mousekeeping as soon as they open (which if I remember correctly is around 6AM.) Ask if late checkout is possible. Typically they have had no problem giving us until 1PM, but one time it was only until noon. I don't think they do later than 1PM. If you ask too late, you're not going to get it. If you ask the front desk, the front desk is going to ask Mousekeeping.

We then leave our bags with bell services, go to the park(s) and then typically schedule a 5PM meal at the resort restaurant, so by the time we are done with dinner (which is nice and relaxing and of course there is a restroom) we can just walk outside to get our bags, pick up the Magic Express and get back to the airport.

Also, the one time we stayed at CBR, since the actual room is nowhere near the checkout building, we called the front desk to ask where to leave our bags, and within 5 minutes they sent someone to pick them up right from our room and take them to where we could pick them up later.

While we've always been granted late check out when asked, it's never been later than 1pm. When we stayed at AKL, they said they 'might' be able to work something later, but a charge would be involved. Ultimately, we just usually leave our bags with bell services and go have fun. It's less hassle than dealing with a possible late check out.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
I have never been able to get it. Always denied. I go during slower times of the year too.
Me too so I just leave later if I need to anyway because I know they cannot charge me anything until 2pm as I noted in my other post above. 2pm they can charge you half nights stay and 4pm they can charge you a whole nights stay. I go at slower times like you and think it's ridiculous you have to absolutely be out by 11am with rare late check out requests! Any other hotel when we travel not at Disney late checkout is never usually a problem, and they don't bang on your door to leave either if it's slightly after the required time or BEFORE the required time like at AKV Kidani (home resort)!!! Our last trip to WDW last year they were banging on our door BEFORE 10:30AM to see when we were leaving!!!!! It was not after 11 it wasn't even 10:30!!!! I was in the middle of finishing getting dressed in the bathroom and they kept on every 10 min or so after 10:30!! And they were rude! It's like you bothered us BEFORE check out time and kept interrupting us!! We had to complain to management (housekeeping manager was rude so we told the front desk manager person) and they apologized and understood that was not neccessary.:banghead:

So glad you have had better luck than me. Kidani (where we stay the most) NEVER grants our request for 12pm or 1pm! (And the Housekeeping manager is rude so I will not try the approach of asking housekeeping like mentioned lol) So annoying as that's our home resort. VGF ,SSR, and Boardwalk never gave us a problem even if we forgot to ask.

On our trip last month, we had late ADRs and requested a 4:00 check out at the GF. I could get 1:00 for free, but the 4:00 time cost us 158.00. In my opinion, for what we needed it was worth it.
Crazy how each resort is different! Kidani charges the half at 2pm and 4pm it would be a whole night which usually for us is $500-600. No fair!! Haha :grumpy:

Flying out that late, DME will pick you up around 5 pm. I would spend the day in a park. You can get a good 8 hours in a park and check out at the normal time. Do the pool/water park stuff on another day.

I may have had pity working in my favor for that one. That was the trip where we were in the bad accident on the way to the airport and from what I understand, it was noted in a number of places for us that trip.

Oh yeah I remember that but hey you deserved any and all pity that they may have given you! Lol

We were given a 3pm checkout at the GC in DLR in 2013 because I had a severe migraine and ended up having a doctor come to the room and our flight was not until 6 and they were gracious enough to give us a later that usual late checkout(1pm is the norm if granted) with no added charge but that also may have been due to the meds given to me by the doctor who recommended that I stay in bed as long as possible before going to the airport but that was an extreme case.

Yes if someone is sick they will allow you to stay in the room at no charge until late in the day/evening. They did tell me that was one reason they do indeed allow it. Sorry that happened to
you and glad they were so understanding. One plus side (if there is one ever if your sick) is it happened your last day and not in the middle of your trip! That is my biggest fear getting so sick I miss out on part of my trip or something happens back home and I have to leave.

Me too! With my migraines, even after 20yrs I cannot predict or prevent and thankfully that one was on the last day and not the first or the middle.

Maybe it was 3:00 then. I honestly don't remember. I'd be surprised if there were different policies for late check out charges at different resorts unless there were extenuating circumstances involved.
