Late Check-out

Next month we will be staying at WL and on our last day we are planning to just hang around the hotel until we have to get on the Magical Express at about 12:45 PM. We will probably go swimming or maybe go to DTD. Check-out is at 11:00 AM, but we don't want to have to come back from DTD early or quit swimming early. Can we request a late check-out? When do we need to do it by? Does it cost anything?

Thanks!

You can request it, but it is rarely granted.

if you plan on swimming, you can use the shower facilities that are part of the laundry area to change before Magical Express picks you up.

If you plan on going to DTD, just stow your bags with bell services first thing in the morning, and then get back to the resort around 12:25 so that you have enough time for them to retrieve your bags. This is done all the time.

I was wondering the same thing!! Our flight has been changed and we wont board ME until after 6PM. The DD will want to hit a park and we are planning on WCC for our last meal before heading back to reality. I would love to be able to go back to our room and then check out before we eat at 5. Does anyone know if this will be possible??? When is the best time to ask...when we check in or last minute like the day before check out??? Any help or advise will be great!!!

It's very unlikely, since they probably will need the room for other guests to check-in. Leave your bags with Bell Services in the morning.

Usually you can get 1 extra hour for a late check out (although that will completely depend on how booked the resort is). You won't get anything more because they are going to have to clean that room for the next party. If you are planning on leaving at 12:45, you are in pretty good shape. For the other poster looking to check out at five, you aren't going to be able to. The resort will be happy to hold any luggage for you until you are ready to leave, but everything is going to have to be out of the room.

What would you be going back to your room for?

DH would love to be able to shower and change before going to the airport. Me...I dont really care..but he does not like the fact we are leaving so late but its not by my choice. JetBlue pushed our flight back over 2 hours and I dont want to change it to the early am flight so we are kind of stuck. I will ask and see what they will do. If they dont let us then he will have to make do...we hav done it before. Thanks everyone!!

They have lockers and showers near the pool/laundry.

Since you are a resort guest, he may even be able to use the shower facilities in the fitness center.

We have never been denied a late check out of 1pm. Anything after 1pm incurs a charge (I think they'll let you extend to 3pm, not sure how much it costs). You can't usually request it until your departure date or the day before. And it is subject to availability, but like I said we've never been denied. Inquire at the desk when you check in and find out your hotel's procedure.

I guess we have been lucky...we've requested late check out on nearly every single trip, and have never been turned down. In fact, most times they give us more time than we asked for. Just last week at the Wilderness Lodge we requested one extra hour (which would have been noon) and they told us we could have until 1:00.

We frequently ask for a late check out and I can only vaguely recall one time being denied. Most of the time they have granted a 1pm but a couple of times they would only go to noon.

The exception to late check-out is when you're staying at a DVC resort. We requested an extra hour at BLT last year (staying on cash of course) and they told us there are no late check-outs permitted in DVC resorts, period. :(

We always use Bell Services. We always fly out on an 8:00 pm flight. So we check our luggage in the morning and leave our carry-ons with Bell Services and head out to a park for the day. When we return to our hotel we just pick up our carry-ons (which usually has a change of clothes) and prepare for DME to pick us up - the sad part. It has always worked out great for us!

My normal last day consists of a late flight.

I do a park in the AM, and then relax at the pool, eat dinner, and catch the DME to the airport.

I have never requested a late checkout.

1) Check all of your checked bags with RAC in the AM

2) Pack a carry-on and a bag with change of clothes, swimwear, a plastic bag for the swimwear, a comb/brush, and if you want any soap/shampoo/etc (remember TSA rules though). Leave these with bell services.

3) Go enjoy a park

4) Come back, get your swim bag from bell services.

Now here is the 'secret' - Depending on the resort there are showers / locker rooms available. Some are better than others. If you are not a DVC member, you may have to pay $10 or so to use the gym for the day (that entitles you to the locker room too) The locker rooms in BC/YC/WL are very nice. SSR used to have the downright BEST locker room - you used to use the Spa one (sauna, whirlpool, fresh fruit, robes and slippers, complimentery razors/combs/soap/toothpaste/etc, bathing suit spinner) but I guess too many people were using it, so now there is no access unless you are actually getting a spa treatment. There is now a shower and lockers available on the first floor of the spa building (but not in the spa). I miss the SSR spa locker room. I would come back from the park and swim, then sauna, shower, shave, brush teeth, get dressed, eat dinner at the Turf Club, and be totaly relaxed on my DME ride to the airport. :)

I have almost always been granted a late check out. I request it at check in - and then call and remind housekeeping about it the night before I am to check out. Once at the Grand Fl, they couldn't give me any extra time, but offered me a room FREE for the day until my 5 pm limo pick up. That was unusual but wow that was nice to just have to come back to. Just saying, you don't know unless you ask. :)

PhoneDave gave a great last day plan. We follow a similar one on our last day.

Enjoy -

Here is THE deal with late check-outs. These are THE rules. But as with anything else at WDW, there are times when CMs can spread a little unexpected "magic."

Late check-out needs to be requested from the HOUSEKEEPING department. The front desk has NOTHING to do with whether or not yet can get a late check-out. If you ask the front desk, all they can do is call Housekeeping for you. The front desk can't simply grant it to you, they MUST call Housekeeping.

Generally speaking, the earliest you can get an answer is the night before, and in many cases you'll be asked to ask again on the morning of check-out day, as they'll have better information about whether or not they can accommodate you.

[As mentioned earlier, DVC resorts DO NOT grant late check-outs. This is due to at least two factors: 1) they tend to have a higher occupancy rate than non-DVC resorts; 2) guests staying on DVC points do not get daily Housekeeping services, and therefore the clean-up and change-over usually takes longer than at a regular resort where the room was cleaned every day.]

IF you are granted late check-out, here's the fee schedule:

Until 1 p.m. -- no charge

1 p.m. - 3 p.m. -- 50% of nightly RACK rate (that is, the full rate, not any discounted rate you may have had for your stay)

after 3 p.m. -- 100% of nightly RACK rate

This is information received from current cast members, not from personal experience or personal opinion. As I said, there can be exceptions to almost anything at WDW, but the rules are above.
