Hello,

My husband and I will be in Disney late Nov./early Dec. of this year (getting closer!). We will be staying at AKL and don't plan to rent a car (as this point, at least.) We want to try a different restaurant each night, and are wondering if buses run late enough for us to have a late evening meal at different resorts or parks?? Thanks for any information!!

Late Bus Schedule

Hi SLPRay:

Buses usually run up until midnight, so I'm thinking that a late dinner is entirely possible for you. And that includes early Dec., as that's when my Wife and I went for our honeymoon.

You're first trip? We're thinking about early Dec., or Jan. ourselves.

Have a great time.

Brian and Rachel.

I believe buses do not go directly between resorts. There are others who may have better advice for you, but I'd say to go to another resort from AKL, you'd need to take a bus to a themepark or Downtown Disney and then take another bus to where you want to have dinner. The process would be the same in reverse on the way back. Of course, taxicabs and other limo-type transportation is also available.

For an earlier mealtime, you could go directly from a themepark if you didn't need to freshen up at your room. After dinner you could ride the monorail and/or take a bus to DD if it's late (up to 2 or 3 am I think), and take another bus back to your resort.

I hope someone else chimes in on this thread with some personal experience from which we can all learn.

late bus schedule

Not sure about AKL, but I know from having stayed at All Star Sports that the buses run up until midnight. I beleive that the monorail has about the same run schedule. You may want to call ahead before leaving for your trip to ensure what the exact schedules are for Dec.

I would not rent a car..WDW transportation is just fine for getting around...and given the fact that you are staying at a deluxe resort-AKL- your transportation is usually well enough..we stayed @ AKL last year and the busses worked well...

13 days till AKL

Thanks!

Thanks for all of your replies!

I'm relieved to hear that we shouldn't have a problem getting around after the parks are closed. We'll have to pick up a bus schedule after we're there to plan our routes (I'm assuming they have these?)

This will be our second time going to Disney as a couple, and our second time staying at a resort. The first time we went in June 1995 for our honeymoon and stayed at the Yacht Club. This time we opted for something different and chose AKL (we upgraded from Coronado Springs--if all goes well, this will be our last vacation pre-kids so we decided to splurge a little!) When we went for our honeymoon, money was tight so we ate a lot off property (drove down and had our car.) This time we live much further away, are flying down, and I want to have the whole experience including eating on property! So, we're not even planning to rent a car.

Thanks for all of your help!

It's fine if you onl;y want to get around Disney property, but if you want to go further afield then it isn't so great.

Late Bus Schedule

There should be a schedule available at guest relations of your resort. We both hope that you 2 have a great time. I grew up down there, so have been a lot. But we just took my daughter for her first trip there in Jan. 03, and it was the best vacation of my life, without question. Nothing compares to seeing your childs' face light up with each new experience at each of the parks.

Enjoy your trip!!

Hi SLPRAY!!!

Just wanted to add that the Bus hours are based on the opening/closing times of the individual Parks.

Generally, busses run to/from a park up to an hour BEFORE opening and 2 hours AFTER closing, so be sure to check the operating hours for the Park you are looking to travel to.

Outside of those hours, you have little choice but to use Downtown Disney as your "transfer" station to/from wherever you want to go.

The only Hotel - Hotel transportation is on the Monorail Loop or via the Resort boats from Magic Kingdom. Those hours also vary according to the MK and TTC hours.

Be sure to ask at check-in for the most current hours and base your FREE travel around that.

Never forget, there are always plenty of taxis around to speed you on your way......FOR A FEE!

Where's Fantasia bo.......i mean Invero when you need him(WDW Transportation CM)? Someone mentioned that busses don't go resort to resort and that you would either have to go from AKL to a theme park/DTD and then to the resort to have dinner. This is true. Be sure to factor in a good chunk of time to get to your destination if you are making Priority Seating arrangement. Invero would be able to tell you how much time....but I think it is at least 45 minutes and maybe closer to an hour.

Busses operate approximately every 20 mins from about 7 am until 1 hour after each park closes. Downtown Disney busses make their last run at 2 am from the Pleasure Island Bus stop.

There are no schedules available since the system does not operate on that type of dispatch system.

To travel from resort to resort, it will be necessary to go from your resort to one of the 5 hubs and then transfer to the bus that will get you to the destination resort. The 5 hubs are Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, and Downtown Disney. Of course as each park closes that hub disappears from the system which leaves you with Dowtown Disney as the hub available for transfers after 9 pm.

You will need to allow at least one hour of time for each trip to a different resort. If everything works out perfectly you will arrive with extra time to look around the resort before your reservation. If have to wait a few minutes on one of the buses then you will at least arrive on time.
