How close to check-in have you booked a room? We did it 24 hours ahead!

Hubby and I are returning today from RI to our Sebring, FL home and our daughter and 6 year old granddaughter are coming to get us at the Orlando airport, and we will go right by Disneyworld. For about a month now, on and off I've been checking to see if there were any openings at any DVC just for the one night so we could stay over and enjoy the decorations and soak up some happiness after going through (as many of you out there are also experiencing) a couple very difficult economic/business years. And each time they check there are no openings. Just for the fun of it I decided to check again yesterday with Member Services about a room. To my GREAT surprise there was an opening!!! :sohappy::sohappy::sohappy: I feel sorry for the people who had to cancel but are so thrilled and thankful we were able to book it!! Our thanks to Steve from Member Services for helping us do that! He is a great CM and "you rock Steve"! :king:

Our Christmas will be blessed by being with our family and this is just a wonderful extra to enjoy time with them at our favorite place in the world.:xmas:

Congratulations on your booking. It is not totally uncommon to get a single night stay at the last minute, at Saratoga Springs or Old Key West (larger resorts). Did you end up at a different resort? If so, then you should run out and purchase a lottery ticket because today could be your day.

You're right about Steve. He is a great CM. I have a list of about 50 CMs at DVC that go above and beyond and he is included in that list.

We got back Sunday night and yesterday was a little hectic because we are now back in Florida at our daughter's for 3 weeks. We had a great time even though the weather at Disneyworld was not too good. It was a little rainy Saturday and Sunday was cold - we saw lots of sandals with socks, but it doesn't matter because even a bad day at Disney is still better than a good day anywhere else. We stayed at the Boardwalk, which is our favorite. Unfortunately during the fireworks at 6 pm on Saturday it was so foggy we couldn't hardly see the Castle from the Emporium, and couldn't see any fireworks either, just heard them. We've never seen it that bad. None of the ferryboats could run either. The Mickey Party started at 7 so you can imagine how many people were leaving and waiting at the monorail. We took the bus and that wait was pretty long, although it was very organized. There were even some private busses running. Our 6 year old granddaughter likes the hotel almost as much as the Parks, believe it or not, so everything was just great for her. She went on Tower of Terror for the first time and loved it! Although she wasn't ready to go back on a second time when we got off! And we watched the Osborne lights, but didn't find the cat. This year they only allowed you to enter by way of Pizza Planet-Muppetland and through the Streets of San Francisco and then exit by the 50's Diner.
The trip was short but great!:xmas:

We are going to try to go to the Merry Mixer for DVCers on Thursday. We've always wanted to go. This year it is at the Contemporary so that will be nice I would imagine. I know in the past it was always held outside (tented) near the rear entrance to Epcot. Can anyone here give me an idea of what to expect? I've read the description on the DVC website.
