I'm just curious if anyone here is from Vegas. Lately I've been entertaining the thought of moving there, and it's very tempting to be honest. I'm not thinking of anytime soon, but perhaps in February after my lease here is complete.

Any ideas?

I don't live in Vegas - but I have many friends that live there and my job takes me there quite often; so I feel I know the place well.

The people I know that live there love it. Yep - it gets hot, it's the desert - but you learn how to live with it. A/C is your friend. When it's blazing you make other plans (like being in the pool.)

The education system for kids is very highly rated. Housing is reasonable. Cost of living is very good. There are many plus sides to Vegas.

Most locals don't go anywhere near the tourist traps, except when relatives come out. If they want to go to a casino, they go to the outer laying ones like The Reserve. Actually, I prefer the outlaying ones myself.

If you don't mind the +100 Degree heat in the summer. And you like gambling... Yes its the place to be. But going on 3 - 4 day trips.. Thats enough for me. :)

I don't live there, but I have been there four times in the last three years and I had a long car ride with a resident who talked at length about the area.

He moved there because of respiratory problems and he loves the climate (personally, the dust gets stuck in my throat). He also likes the prostitutes, strippers, and entertainment, but he doesn't gamble or drink (anyone who enjoys any of those things too much may have fun for a while, but find themselves running out of money quickly).

He seemed to feel there was a lack of a middle class (at least in the city area). Most of the people who live in or close to the city are dealers, waiters/waitresses, housekeeping and other people in service industries ( don't forget the people that hand out the stripper cards). The result is a very large working class, small upper class and dispraportionately small middle class.

There is currently ample low cost housing, but that is becoming rarer as development increases at an insane pace. There are fears that water, traffic, pollution (there is currently a visible haze covering the city that you can see when you approach) could become serious problems in the near future.

That's my input from a very limited perspective. Hopefully some other people can offer their input so you can decide from a broader perspective.

Good Luck!

Hey.....I moved to Vegas on a whim just over a year ago. Lived there for 9 months. was a great time. I had a non stop blast, seeing as i had no job the whole time i was there. but when it came down to it, its a place better to just visit then live.

We have been for a very brief visit and loved Las Vegas. Adjusting to living there can't be any worse than New Orleans.
Rob- you have traveled extensively and you seem to be able to adjust to just about anything. Heck- if you don't like it; at least you're adventurous enough to try something else.
