Saw this comment on the Disneyfoodblog.com about the pineapples posted 2 days ago.
Regarding the Pineapple — we just contacted Tambu today and received the response that they have not heard anything about discontinuing the pineapples at all. Sometimes they run low and have to order new cases, but there doesn’t seem to be any danger of the pineapples going by the wayside. Crisis averted.

You are correct. They do purchase them already hollowed out.
They incorporate the cost of the pineapple shell into the cost of the drink. I cannot see them removing it since it is such a popular cocktail and really fits the Poly theme. I would not get too concerned over this right now. Maybe they just ran out of pineapple shells one day.

I mean are there other places clamoring for the shell of the pineapple???
