Laptop

Greetings all,

Heading to PORFQ next week and bringing a laptop on vacation for the first time.

The dumb bunny question I have is how does one secure it when out at the parks ? The option of "not a good idea" is in play also.

Thanks

We just leave it in the room. I know that some will put in the safe in the room, but we just left it on the table in the room. My kids also had their laptops on the trip, and those were left in the room.

I leave it in the room, in the suitcase in the closet, locked with the keys in the safe. I back up my hard drive and put that in the safe in case it gets stolen. If it gets stolen, they will find out who it is b/c it shows on a key card who goes in and out. They may not recover it, but I have everything backed up. I should mention that I have left it loads of time on the desk and nothing has ever happened to it.

I've always left mine in the room. I usually don't leave it out, but I also don't lock it up. It's too big for the safe, but I often just zip it into one of the bags. Smaller things go in the safe.

Well, after our luggage and portable DVD player was stolen at POP back in 2010 (we still suspect it was the suspicious Hispanic maid...) we have watched our items very carefully throughout our trips. Our laptops are usually in cases and under the beds while we are out. This, I'm sure, was a freak accident, but they couldn't even offer us a few nights free??? We got our items back a couple weeks later, but they were moldy and gross...all except the DVD player surprisingly!

We need time for things to happen.
6 years running and the laptop has stayed in the room right out in the open.
However if you're concerned it will get ripped off they sell universal locks you could lock to one of the shelves in the closet or closet areas.

I know you shouldn't make it easiers for thieves, but my thought is always that locks are for honest people.

The past two trips I have brought the laptop and left it I. The room in the soft case with no problems. I usually lock the phone in the safe but that is more force of habit than anything. If you have concerns though you could always check it at the concierge as you head out to the parks. If you think the worrying will hinder your fun at the parks then go that route.

the lockers at POFQ are big enough for macbook pro size laptops in the safes. (Not all of the resorts have safes that are large enough for laptops).
That being said, I have never locked up my laptop or ipads or anything else in the room -- though I don't leave them lying out in the open either. I just put them either inside the backpack they live in usually anyway, or in one of the dresser drawers.
By the way, depending on how long you are there, and how many are in your party, you don't even have to have room service if you don't want it. Just leave your Do Not Disturb sign on the door during the day and they will not enter; and they will still leave you a bag of fresh towels, shampoos, and toilet paper outside your door in the afternoon. I go a few times a year and stay for about 4 days. I have never had room service nor needed it.

we pring 2 laptops (the kids each want their own), plus ipods and phones and have never had a problem. We have locked them with a security cord (pain in the butt), put them in suitcases or the bottom drawer of the dresser; we have even left it on the table charging and NEVER has anything been moved/taken.

The safes in the hotels we have stayed in are barely large enough for a wallet or two so it won't fit in there.

Same here, but my husband has once of those "wire laptop" locks he attaches for his work laptop.
