Laptop Or Tablet?

What do you use it for? For the last four or five years I've been bringing nothing but my iPad for my stays. Are you planning on doing writing, or spread sheets, or other computer stuff you can't do on your tablet? Most likely not.

I stopped traveling with a laptop even for business trips three years ago.

Both of my trips the last few years I've only taken my tablet. I can pack it in a bag to use while in line and it was great to have a larger screen for certain things over just a phone. I have a USB to HDMI adapter that I use to watch Netflix on the TV back in the hotel room.

Yes
I take both, but for the past few years haven't powered up the laptop. Your situation may be different than mine though as I'm not Frontline support, but I am part of many disaster recovery plans.

When I travel for work, usually less than a week, I only bring an iPad. Mostly just for email and web browsing.

When I'm on vacation 1 - 4 weeks, we tend to bring a laptop. We know we'll be paying bills at some point, downloading photos from our digital cameras, listening to music, etc.

On this past trip, I didn't take either.. and didn't really miss them. I like to stay connected, so on past trips, I took both. All the contact I needed with the outside world was through my phone.. but I wasn't running a business either..

Although when we ran into a 2+ hr delay at the airport coming home, it would have been nice to have something besides my phone to Netflix with..

WE now take a tablet (lenovo Android) - for years, we took a laptop.

It took some time, but the TABLET has been outfitted with MS Remote Desktop Client, as well as IPCAM Viewer. This allows us to monitor our Security System from WDW - just as we did with a laptop. So why the change?

I can now put my TABLET into my carry on - and never take it out. The screen size, and thickness, does not trigger any TSA issues.

I've always taken both (we drive, so it's not a problem to bring both). I like the tablet for most things, but we always took the laptop in case we needed it for a business emergency. I recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro 2-in-1 touchscreen laptop so now I have both options in one unit and will only need to take that.

I take both, but I need to have a laptop within quick reach at all times. Most tablets can do 95% of what the average guest will do on vacation. I think the glaring downside in many situations is the ability to back up pictures to a hard drive as needed. Yes, depending on your tablet and memory type you may be able to do that, in which case it would come down more to size/weight in carry on.

On recent trips, I haven't really taken a ton of pictures, I have left that to the Photo Pass photogs. I didn't even take a camera (other than my phone) on our last 2 trips.. I have come to realize that on past trips (not just Disney, but a trip to Peru), that it is really easy to cross the line between being on vacation, and documenting a vacation. Once you cross that line, you stop being on vacation, because you are too worried about missing that perfect shot.

of course, now that we have a kid to take with us.. that might all change.. the focus of my trips will shift towards her enjoyment rather than mine.. but still, mom takes a lot more candids than I ever do.
