What depresses me the most, is that somewhere at Disney there must be some guy(s), who are paid to find more of these little ugly measures to save little pennies here and there, each at the cost of a little less magical experience for the guests (who are actually paying for everything).
And the bean counter makes $80k finding people who make $15k to fire...

Only because we're talking about Disney does it somehow make sense, but how much money can they possibly be saving from this? All three characters only had one attendant and Photopass CM, so they'll still have to pay them to attend the step sisters. Other than a college student who makes $20 an hour, not much is being saved here. I just don't get it. You'd think a meet and greet with no facility to maintain would be right up TDO's alley.

More worryingly, though, is that they've now found a way to make you pay them if you want to meet her. You'd have to buy a meal. I hope this isn't a recurring trend in the near future.
Jeeze, They get paid twenty dollars an hour! That's like the gold mine of jobs to a college student. We get paid about half that on average.

I would typically be the sort of person who would always try and find something positive from TDO decisions it makes, but it's getting pretty hard to try and work out a justification for things like this.

Cuts and no replacements, where is the positive?

Cut back on meet and greets in the parks for certain characters and then charge people $100s to see them at a hard ticketed event...

Screams real penny pinching...

I'm confused, wouldnt an increase in park guests who want to spend time on character M&G make it better to continue to have more characters out to cater to guests and add to the entertainment offered with something cheap (compared to rides)?

Since this doesnt cost save much at all, hopefully this is just so they can fill the position with new characters

No. Guests could either spend time in line waiting to meet a character OR time in a line waiting to buy more merchandise.

Yes, they are doing some nice things in AK.....Avatar....ROL. SW's sometime down the road. But you want to know the funniest thing I seen around these parts? Scaggs said we might have to look in to building some new hotels.....LOL All these cuts do is cause havoc for capacity in the parks. There was a time when there was a plethora of things to do at WDW that had nothing to do with the parks. Anybody see a commercial lately that didn't have anything to do with the parks?......like they used to do. I bet there is people who are reading this that doesn't know they have golf courses on property....fishing excursions.......horse back riding. 20 years ago there was even more to do. Someone around here says my memory is just playing tricks on me and the resort is better then ever.....Sorry I don't think so.

I guess WOL was just a figment of my imagination ( see what I did there? ) The top notch seasonal/holiday decorations? Really what it boils down to is that the Disney difference is what is being cut. It made WDW the worlds vacation destination, and it still maybe.....just with much less difference.

That's a very simplistic view of things. Yes, the company as a whole is a billion dollar company, but they then have to "split the pie", as it were, between many, many different divisions and subsidiaries. The Parks division represents a small piece of pie, and that pie has to be shared with California and others parks around the world.

We were at MK yesterday and waited in line to see the step sisters, but not Lady Tremaine was not there...so maybe this cut has already gone into effect. We ended up seeing the Fairy Godmother which was just as fun.

The weird thing is that they've had a few banner years. You'd think they'd be expanding but, at every turn, it seems it's just more and more cuts.

Some of these I could understand. If people aren't particularly going for a specific character then, yeah, cut them. The thing is, they seem to be cutting all over the place.

I can even understand the cutting of promotions that were used to get people to WDW during the thin years. If people are coming in droves then you certainly cut back on incentives.

A lot of it really strikes me as a "people are going to come and pay anyway"-mentality so why spend the money when you can just pocket it?

Yes, to a degree (WDAS and Marvel are doing great, ESPN not so much). In regards to the parks, they ARE expanding/ renewing. Avatarland, Disney Springs, the DHS renovation, various infrastructure projects, etc. Once things are settled to a degree, I imagine spending on entertainment may increase.
