My sister used to get hives after we went to Epcot. A couple of years we haven't ventured off to france or just passed it. This morning my sister, my mom and my Girlfriend all woke up with hives some worse then others. We also visited the France pavilion for the first time in a long time. Its only after they test that perfume. I know its not always good to jump the gun and assume but me, my dad and my friend were the only ones who didn't test the perfume or get the hives. So just to warn you ladies who like to test perfume and maybe some of you guys with a certain lifestyles, think twice before sampling the perfume.

Hmm....

It's not the French Pavilion....it's your families allergy to the perfume...there are plenty of people with perfume allergies -- clearly yours runs in your family.

I would say that instead of warning everyone away from the perfume shop (which is extremely popular) you folks get some allergy testing done for your family members.

Note also that it could be completely unrelated -- there are lots of people that visit WDW and then try to attribute hives (some call it the "Disney Rash") to one thing or another....from perfume to water in Splash mountain, when there are dozens of other reasons that occurs -- like people taking antibiotics and then getting sun poisoning and calling it "hives"...

I'm not trying to insult you or your family, and sorry about your experience, but it's not the Perfume Shop. It's your reaction to the perfume. Or something else.

Seeing we're on the topic of hives... me and both of my kids break out in the hives the first couple of times we swim in the Disney resort pools. It's only the first couple of times and then it goes away completely. Doesn't happen when we bath or shower and the hives are usually located on our lower face and upper chest area. I wonder if there's something that settles on the top of the water (some plant pollen or something) that we react to. It would explain the location of the hives on our body!?!

I very know well about those skin blotches that people get after Epcot, I have one on my leg right now but don't get it as bad as I used to. I always thought it was a reaction to the chlorine in the fountains. My Mom, my Sister and my Girlfriend were itching up a storm and said it was where the perfume made contact.

What did Disney expect when they formulated a perfume with bee venom, ragweed pollen, and pet dander?

Definitely a possibility but a big quincedence. My girlfriend also got the hives and they were trying the same one. None of them can remember the name of the few. I was assuming that maybe there was a chemical that we arrant used to. I will take your word for it since I know nothing about perfume.

Hmmmm, I stopped into the shop with all the perfumes in January and squirted this and that on me and had no reaction whatsoever.

Heading for the great escape.
Im not sure what they were testing but Guerlain that I know they gave away samples of is quite a well known brand, and not at the "insert celebrity name here" end of the market.

Being in the cosmetics industry myself, I doubt very much that a fragrance would give you hives because of the way it is made.

Sounds to me like a reaction to the product if it is mixed with something, did you family all have on the same sunscreen perhaps? Reactions are very personal and do run in families, if there was something wrong with that tester by the amount that it is sprayed per day Disney would be over run with people with reactions.

The fragrance houses (brands) chosen in showcase are very high end and pretty much the best of the best.

Fragrance testers are actually exactly the same as the product that is sold, and they are completely sealed, and can not be tampered with.

Those samples are fine, spray away people!

I just noticed that "certain lifestyles"........
Does that mean somebody who likes to be clean and smell nice to his fellow human being?
Or is somebody making a ridiculously narrow minded homophobic remark? Either way I don't like it!!

DW sampled a few perfumes in France during last trip, and brought a few home, no hives to report. I did end up with a little headache the next day though. Could have been from smelling the perfumes or the eight or ten drinks during F&W. I'm leaning toward the perfumes.

Calm down, people. The poster wrote "certain lifestyles." Not "questionable lifestyles." Not "inappropriate lifestyles." Not "backwards lifestyles." Since when did the word "certain" take on a negative connotation? :brick: I must have missed that memo. :brick: If someone is transgender, that most definitely is a unique, specific, certain lifestyle. There's no negative implication there, or in the original post. :brick: The fact of the matter is, most men do not wear women's perfume. Period. :brick:

There's a certain mouse that appeals to fans all over the world. Oh no! :brick:

Don't worry, themeparkpioner, not everyone on these boards looks for things to label as offensive.

It is offensive to some people. Why mention it in the first place if they didn't want to single out that lifestyle? The post would have been perfectly fine without it but the OP chose to take an extra step to mention that specifically; therefore, offensive to some people.

As for you family's reaction, it was probably something your mom and sister are allergic to.
