Labor Day Weekend 2017

Hi all!

First time poster here! I've been reading the forums for a long time and have always used your guys advice to book my trips in the past :)

We live in South Florida and are planning to take our 2 year old to Disney World (and possibly my parents) either Labor Day weekend or the following weekend. Is Labor Day weekend crazy busy? We can go the following weekend but we wouldn't be able to stay as long as we won't have days off from work.

Input welcome ASAP as I am booking today!

From the several crowd calendars I've looked at the crowds are predicted to be light to moderate. My guess is that this should be a fairly accurate prediction since most kids are just newly back into school so the crowds will probably consistant mostly of locals instead of those traveling from far away. Who really knows though. We are going Labor Day weekend (and pulling the kids from school and traveling from far away so doing the opposite of what I said/hope most people are doing that weekend :joyfull:).

Good point. I'd expect Epcot and AK to be busier than usual compared to normal Labor Day weekends.

Another SoFlo member here! I've gone Labor Day weekend multiple times (going again this year) and the crowds have not been so crazy. This year however, they've pushed back the beginning of The Food & Wine Festival making LDW the first weekend and that typically makes Epcot unbearable but hoping the heat might keep the crowds manageable. It WILL be hot! Planning some afternoon breaks for the little one will probably help to avoid crowds and heat as well.

We are coming the Sun before LD and staying the week. It will be our first time coming so early in Sept. So, I am curious as to how busy it will be as well. I'm guessing Sunday will be fairly busy, and hoping that many people will be leaving on Monday. We shall see. No matter what...it's still better than being at home!

Looks like the online booking for Disney is down today. Talked to a specialist and they said it should be back up later. Hopefully I can get a good hotel still for Labor Day weekend! Does anyone suggest staying at the cabins?

We stayed at Poly that week and loved it. I booked 60 days in advance for that trip...and got a 30% off room only discount!

@MySmallWorldof4 is doing a trip report right now on the cabins.. they look awesome!! I wouldn't hesitate to stay there.

The new high speed train that's going to run to Orlando. I'm an ex SoFloridian, all of my friends keep telling me it's getting delayed. We are cruising out of Miami in November with a Disney trip afterwards.. I'd love to be able to just take the train instead of renting a car in Miami and paying one way fees for dropping off in Orlando.lol.

I think Ft Wilderness would be great! I'm hoping to stay there eventually.

Yes, several times. It's the last weekend of the "summer season" and many schools will start right after Labor Day, so families will be getting that last three day holiday in. Plus, it's still dang hot in September. MNSSHP party is on that Friday, so the MK will be closing to non party guests at 7:00pm. If you go the following weekend, the MK will close early that Sunday (the 10th) for the party. I would also plan for crowds for Pandora similar to opening day.

If you can, I'd recommend going the following weekend. It will be a difficult visit in the heat and crowds with your two year old.

OP, I'd definitely try to get a cabin. More room, a kitchen so you can pack breakfast foods to cut down on costs, park right at your cabin, so no long treks to/from the car. The bedroom has a queen and two bunk beds. Your parents would be sleeping on the pull out in the living room, if they joined you. And you'd all be sharing the bathroom. Make sure to reserve a golf cart to help get around the camp grounds. The cabins are lovely and peaceful.
