La Calva De Tequila

So the hubby and I tried this place out for the first time this past weekend and were VERY impressed.

He loves margaritas, but tequila is not my fave and I do not handle the tang of a margarita too well.

The tappas interested me, and so we gave it a try.

First of all- I had a margarita and it was DIVINE! No mixes, all made from fresh lime and so smooth. I was able to drink it just fine and had no problems like I typically do with margaritas made frm sour mix. Plus, Nancy, our waitress was so knowledgable and really taught us a lot about the different types of tequila and how they are made etc.

The shrimp tappas and flautas were so good too. VERY yummy!

One thing that made our cocktails even better was the fact that they do not serve them on ice. They chill them like a martini and then put what does not fit in your glass into a caraffe and set it in ice for you. (notice the pic below)

You can slowly sip your drink and it never gets watered down. Great drinks, great service, great food.

We will definitely visit again when we return in September!

I am in love with La Cava. The Durazno is my favorite drink ever!

I love the flavored salts and foams them have on their margaritas. The atmosphere was great and I got to practice my Spanish with the very friendly staff.
So glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for the review! It will be nice to try one of their specialty margaritas - of course, I'm sure I'll still get one from the stand outside, too - it's tradition, right?

After having one in there, you will never again want one from the stand. Those are made with those prepackaged mixes and are sooooo tart and icky.

The ones in tequla bar are just amazing and smooth and delicious!

I have a visit planned for late September, purely for educational research.

That was my excuse!!! Research! And actually it really was educational!
Make sure to research the shrimp cocktail. NOTHING like what we have here. They are served in shot glasses with shrimp, onion, garlic, and a tomato based sauce.....SOOOO yummy!

I went this first time this past trip, it was great! Nothing like a good tequila buzz and then going on Grand Fiesta Tour!

Pro tip: Go there if it's your birthday, they give you a free shot (make sure you're wearing a button and it's actually your bday, they check ID!)
