So Disney says that now weapons are permitted in the parks however under Florida state law a pocket knife is not a weapon so just curious what are your thoughts on this. Are knives allowed or are they not info from this webstite

Hubby always carries a knife. (Maybe a guy thing, not sure.) We were walking in AK, and they stopped us because he forgot he had it in his pocket (this one I got for him as a birthday gift with his name engraved on it). Well, security couldn't hold it for us, and we weren't about to toss it, so we had to leave the park. When did this rule change or are they specific as to what is considered an actual "pocket knife"?

Cant bring a pocket knife in with you but you can be given steak knives in TS restaurants to cut your meat. Does Disney servers count the silverware before you leave the table to ensure a crazed guest doesnt go back into the park with an absconded sharp weapon???

Not sure... but why on earth would you need one? Surely that's just asking for trouble given the current political climate around the world.

A pocket knife is more of a utility for me than anything else. I didn't bring one with me on my trip in 2014 but I ran into a few occasions were I wished I had one. Opening stubborn single server packets of medication or random food containers that the pull to open parts break off. Ever since then I've brought one with me to WDW but I tend to leave it in the room on park days with the metal detectors and everything.

This has been covered extensively in past threads, Disney World has a no weapons policy. However, small folding knives with blades three inches or less are not considered weapons under Disney World policy. Many on this board have documented that when you go through a security checkpoint you can just hand the knife to the security guard, they may measure it using their ID badges (which are around three inches long), they may not measure it, but after you go through the metal detector they will hand it back and ask you to keep it in a pocket and out of sight. They prefer you do not have the clip visible on the outside of your pocket. This was still the policy on our last trip a month ago.

How did they see it in his pocket? Regardless, according to Disney World's own policy, if the blade was three inches or less he should not have been asked to leave.

I have gone through with small pocket knives ever now and then, and never had an issue.

Once, many years ago, I brought in a backpack that I had used on a few hikes. I thought I had taken everything out, but security pulled out a container of waterproof matches, and a small vial of iodine tabs. That was interesting (they let me keep them)

This must have changed, at least for Disney Springs. We went to Frontera Cocina in December, ordered steak dishes medium rare. We could not cut the meat with any knife they provided - my hand was cramping halfway through the steak. The dullest steak knives EVER (actually they might have been cleverly disguised butter knives......), and when you ask for steak knives they bring you more of the same. My DS (22) had to go caveman on his steak and just picked it up and ate it. He declared it delicious, but would have preferred eating it the old fashioned way. So, is dull knives throughout the world the new trend?
